About me: Windswept countryside’s, vibrant colours, varied seasonal light has always been a huge inspiration for me.
Landscape painting, in particular, can be very expressive and emotional. Painting, after all, is but another name for feeling.
Initial studies for my paintings are sketched out in the countryside where you can be enveloped by the whole experience.
These studies are then used alongside photographs to produce the finished piece.
I look to capture the changes in season, from the cool harsh light of early spring to the warmer bright light of a summer afternoon.
Colour and the use of it are very important in my painting. I look to the impressionist artists, Monet, Sisley and Pissaro and their use of colour. I also look to their emotional responses to the landscape and their ability to catch the subtle light movements.
