Sounds Like
You put Brazilian jazz, the Mpls Sound, and the Blues in a blender.
We are Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Sound is a feeling, and a situation.
We blog about the situations in the past that brought us joy, and we play music that brings back that feeling.
We are trying to invent a new kind of music with an old school feel. Think of the Crusaders with Randy Crawford, or Grover Washington with Bill Withers, only think of that as a permanent situation, and with a Minneapolis funk. Is it jazz? Is it pop? We don't know what it is, but we try to keep it real, and we try to keep it sounding live, as we use modern recording techniques but use old school methods to record.
Each take is a one-take affair, keeping it as much like real jazz as possible, with the minor mistakes staying in.
When we complete our album, it will be a mix of modern R&B, funk, nu-jazz, and rock.
We hope you enjoy the experience.
YOOOOOO!!!! How goes it?? I'm about to go listen to this song that has 0 plays because it probably shouldn't be at 0. What key is "Under the Moon" in I kinda want to jam along to it. Were playing at The Cabooze this Thursday you should out by if your not to busy!!
I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
Well there's yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. That's a classic. There's yo ho blow the man down. (That one's a little dirty). There's that song by Jimmy Buffet, "I don't know, I don't know...wherever I go I bring my rum!" I'd go with that one. Robert Leo
