”Im not worried about the future for this band.” Jock Loveband, producer and sound technician (has worked with e.g. Sting, Boy George, Madrugada, Kaizers Orchestra)
It takes a good deal of patience and commitment to break through as a post punk/punk rock band in these days; in a genre environment filled with cred-hunters and more or less similiar looking and sounding bands – especially when you come from Dikemark, Asker; a place significantly more known for its infamous mental hospital than its music scene!
Fortunately, this is something the girls and boys in Vanity Vanished understood at an early stage. Three years of non-stop working, constant songwriting and massive, more or less non-paid gigging have finally resulted in a debut EP, festival summer and UK tour!
”The band has an obvious advantage in singer Iselin ”Issin” Sørvoll. She’s got a mature voice, which may recall memories of both PJ Harvey and a young (and not irritating) Gwen Stefani.” Henning Krane, booking executive of Slottsfjellfestivalen 09 & booking for By:Larm 09 (Norway’s answer to The Great Escape Festival).
The band slowly, but steady (sakte, men sikkert) established a loyal and growing bunch of commited fans back in Asker and their new home, Oslo, and as time passed by, big shots started taking notice of the post punk four-piece. Super technician and producer Jock Loveband expressed his wish to record the band’s first EP; a product that was finished with great success in June 2009.
Additionally, Vanity Vanished was picked up to compete for a spot on the big music festival Slottsfjellfestivalen – a competition the band ended up winning, and thereby earning a spot on the Tønsberg festival’s final day!
As the icing of the cake, promo agent Herman E. Lund (Accidents Never Happen, Cute Crash Combo, I Love Wynona and several other Norwegian artists) signed a promo deal with the band. The collaboration has proved to be fruitful, and the future is looking bright for the tireless Vanity Vanished.
”Vanity Vanished is the kind of band that makes promo and coaching work really fun! I know very few bands which has discovered the worth of tireless, hard work at the same degree as these guys. They’ve been doing everything right so far, and with the right people around the band and continued creativity and high work rate, I can’t see why this band shouldn’t be a candidate for the major stages around in the music world in the near future.” Herman E. Lund, promo agent
Vanity Vanished plays a mash-up of post punk, punk rock anno early eighties and new wave, with extreme energy taken straight from the basement below the mental hospital home in Dikemark; with intelligence in text and music; and with a good, old fuck you-attitude to everything disguised and faked. Do not miss the band’s selftitled debut-EP, which is currently up for sale, and catch one of their notorious live shows, where the band’s two very visible front figures Ida Jakobsen (electric guitars) and Iselin ”Issin” Sørvoll usually steals the stage and never gives it back.

The soundtrack for the wedding party of anger & gloom. Traktor from Sweden, which are not only highly considered in circles of connoisseurs because of their extraordinary live qualities, perfect their grim chaos-core on their first full length, entitled Lights. The typical Traktor sound from the early days with indigestive breaks and dissonant guitar riffs in the vein of famous San Diego bands like Drive Like Jehu or Swing Kids is getting enobled with dark & calm passages. Although the album was mastered in the much sought-after Tonteknik-Studio in Umeå, the regulary comparisons to Refused or early JR Ewing are less present, then genre bulks like Lack or Breach. Lights is an album designed for a cheerless winter, post-hardcore between aggression & depression.
