+++About+++
Building his reputation since late 2005, self-taught and self-made Van Scott rode the fast track to become a New York City mainstay deejay for major recording artists (Lykke Li), top clubs (Studio B, mr. Black, Cielo) and fashion houses (Marchesa, Patricia Field, Diesel). In between his DJ performances, Van produces and writes original music, as well as, remixes songs by major acts such as Sia, Princess Superstar and Larry Tee due for release on labels as diverse as Ultra Records, DANR Music and Sony BMG.
Known for seamlessly mixing indie, electro, pop/hip hop remixes, tech house, fidget, and B-more, Van leaves crowds captivated by the journey his musically-programmed mind and well-versed knowledge of cutting edge takes them. Even though the masses may not know what he is playing at any given point, the common denominator is a jumping and jacking musical landscape that renders the body into a frenzy. Whether it is at a major club, fashion show or private party, as long as there is a knocking sound system and room to dance, Van is game!
After several years of spinning alongside international heavyweights such as Switch, Sinden, Jesse Rose, Laidback Luke, Swayzak, Z-Trip, Todd Terry, Josh Wink, Radioclit, Junior Sanchez, Tommie Sunshine, Junior Vasquez, Peter Rauhofer and Victor Calderone, Van Scott is finally doing what he was meant to do all his life: create music. His first release, “Nightlovers,” produced by Alexander Technique with remixes by Acid Jacks (One Love Australia), Nick Catchdubs (Fools Gold) and Chewy Chocolate Cookies was the top ten most blogged track of February 2009. Also, Van is lending vocals to new original projects.
Not one to limit his creativity, Van founded production team and live act Drlkt Freddie with engineer and producer Jad Cooper. Influenced by the aura of Queen and David Bowie and the fresh sounds of French pop, ghetto tech and electro, the duo’s individuality is recognizable in their official remixes of "You've Changed" by indie songstress Sia and Lauren Flax, "Rock U" by Alexander Technique feat. Princess Superstar, “Let’s Make Nasty” by Larry Tee feat. Roxy Cottontail and original songs "Airtight and "Blood". The group is remixing several other acts including Killer on the Dancefloor, Dirty Disco Youth, Sick Boy and Semi Precious Weapons, as well as, creating original material for The Ones' new LP. Currently Drlkt Freddie is working on an indie EP for an early 2010 release.
Why is Van on the map? Maybe it’s because of his charismatic impulse to break it down and dance with other partygoers between mixes. Or it could be his innate connection to rhythm and his self-imposed duty to express it. Most of it is indescribable and must be seen to believe. One thing is for sure: Van Scott is here to stay...for as long as he continues to be blessed with the freedom of music.
