I admire your work man. I am going to school at the Art Institute of Dallas for a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design. It gets stressful, but I love it so much.

About me:

....I live on the south side of Chicago, an achievement in itself, since no one north of Cermak Road seems to know we're even here.

I'm a freelance illustrator; been one since 1983, both freelance and on staff. My specialties are editorial and technical illustration, and in my spare time I love to do automotive illustration. I started out using airbrush and pen-and-ink. Sat down in front of a Macintosh SE in 1988, and my life hasn't been the same since, at least where illustration is concerned. 90% of my work these days is vector illustration in Adobe Illustrator (yes, I can work in Photoshop and Flash.) Currently, I work on a G4.

You can see samples of my work at my website, home.earthlink.net/~smithster and www.coroflot.com. I've also got a collection of stock illustration at www.stockart.com.

Last year, I went over to the dark side and bought a Dell Inspiron laptop; it's... not half bad;-)

Around that same time, I decided to go back to my airbrushing roots; it took a few weeks to relearn everything after 18 years, but it was pretty much like riding a bicycle. Right now, I'm painting flames on Vans slip-ons. Want to see what they look like? Just go to my website on earthlink and click on "Sneaker Design". If you're ready to buy, go to eBay and search on the seller name "artistmac". I'm going to try to keep a few pairs up for auction all the time.

A word of warning to those of you who spend all your free time in front of the computer. When I started working in front of a flickering screen, I had 20/20 vision. 10 years later, my vision had gotten so bad I needed bifocals. ....

Who I'd like to meet:

Van Kaufman and Arthur Fitzpatrick(the guys who painted all those cool Pontiac print ads in the 60's), Maxfield Parrish, Norman Rockwell, George Petty, Alberto Vargas, Leslie Ragan, John Hassall, Mad Magazine's Mort Drucker and Angelo Torres,Paul R. Williams (the late architect, not the singer), any of the Wyeths, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, Frank Frazetta, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, Chip Foose, Al Hirschfeld, Ralph Gilles(who styled the current Chrysler 300). Seeing a pattern here? In the animation field, Chuck Jones and Tex Avery.
