About me:
The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team responds to four species of seals in Virginia; the harbor seal (the most common), harp seal, grey seal, and hooded seal. Seals strand throughout the year here in Virginia, however the majority do strand in the winter months. The seals found here are mostly young of the year and are 3-4 feet in length, ranging from 40-80lbs. If you see a seal hauled out on the beach, please stay at least 50 yards away and keep all pets away. These animals do carry diseases that can transmit to your pets and possibly to humans and they will bite if they feel threaten. Please, then call the Stranding Center at (757)437-6159.
