There is still a place where enchantment
lives - where streams sing and winds whisper. Where caverns lead to nether
realms. Where trees speak and flowers tell tales.

Jack and the Beanstalk is an English fairy tale. The first printed version appeared in 1807. The first pantomime was at Drury Lane in 1819. An actress named Eliza Povey played Jack, and, bearing in mind the date, this fact makes her a contender for the very first “Principal Boy”. Theatrical legend has it that the Giant Beanstalk was so tall that Miss Povey refused point blank to climb it, as it towered over the stage at Drury Lane. From the earliest story the Giant has always cried on smelling Jack's presence: Fee-fi-fo-fum! I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he 'live, or be he dead, I'll grind his bones to make my bread.
Thanks for the awesome comments. I am dropping off a few tonite to wish you a gr8 day tommorrow and hopefully these will tie me over for a couple of days until I leave for the holidays..*wink* Love and kisses, ♥ Ally ♥ XoXo
Once upon a time there were Three Bears................
In Victorian times, Goldilocks the pantomime was regularly presented. W.S. Gilbert (of the Savoy Operas) wrote a version of “Goldilocks” in 1867. It was performed at The Lyceum Theatre London. The plot of Goldilocks, unlike many other pantomimes is not set in stone. The simple tale of Goldilocks and three bears is only a small part of the pantomime. There are many variations on the panto story, but in general they all revolve around a circus theme.
