Vasco was born and raised in Hameln, Germany. A classically trained pianist and singer, he was initially interested in pop song writing, composing his first musical, Somebody's Life, at age 16. Vasco later received a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, Boston, where he studied Vocal Performance and discovered his love for film music. He added Film Scoring as a second major study and throughout his studies received several awards.
Vasco attended the Royal College of Music, London, from 2004, where he earned a Master of Music Degree in Composition for Screen. Upon graduation, he held the coveted Lord and Lady Lurgan Junior Fellowship in Composition for an unprecedented two years (2006-2008). He was one of three finalists in the 2008 Volkswagen Score Competition, part of the Berlinale ‘Talent Campus’.
In September 2008, Vasco joined the Royal College of Music Composition Faculty as Area Leader in Composition for Screen.
Vasco has composed scores for award-winning animations, short films, documentaries, TV idents (KanalD, Romania), and an independent feature film (The Sandpiper, USA 2007, dir. Claudia Carey). He regularly composes concert works. At the same time, Vasco still has an affection for pop music and musical theatre and frequently works as a conductor, arranger, and producer.
Recent and ongoing projects include composing production music for Universal Publishing (Berlin), a dance EP in collaboration with producer Graham Waugh (Camden), and arranging and conducting a 16-piece choir for the new Gucci Flora ad, under director/music producer Chris Cunningham (London).
Vasco lives in London and spends a lot of time in Germany, the U.S., and France.
