I always heard that to make money as an artist you had to be dead or have cut off a body part or both. Well, I've just landed myself a job with a steady wage with almost total artistic freedom and I'm in one piece and still alive.
I'm a spray paint artist and a new clothing company called Vasilkie saw some of my work on the street and liked it so much they gave me a job. Yeah, that's right, they're paying me to do graffiti! The only difference is that clothes have become my canvas.
Now the good thing about Vasilkie is that because each item they sell is hand made, I can let my designs grow and change whenever I like. I never get bored mass producing the same things and I get to create something brand new and unique every time I work.
I'm mainly designing canvas belts at the moment. Well, technically the belts are actually made of tight weave heavy cotton webbing but that didn't quite have the same ring to it.
It's all going really well at the moment and I swear I had a tear in my eye when I first saw my work in the shops. I'm still waiting to see someone I don't know wearing one on the street.
I'd love to speak to any other designers or spray paint artists or anyone out there who's interested in my work. Have a look at some of my belts here or on the Vasilkie website or if you fancy taking a stroll down to Bond just off Carnaby Street in London you can have a look there too.
Drop me a line if you want to talk and if you ask nicely, I'll even design something custom made just for you.
