Jazz cBONTAS – WEINBERGER QUARTET (Romania-Austria)
    Medana, Dobrovo (SLO): 11.00 A.M.

    Billy
Bontas, drummer, from Romania,  and Manfred Paul Weinberger, trumpet,
Austria met for the first time in 1997 in the Rocky Mountains, Canada.
Both went there  to learn and expand their musical studies. Ten years on
and their paths cross once again; this is the beginning of
Bontas/Weinbergr Quartet. A concert recorded in Bad Ischl, Austria, the
occasion was the 30 th Anniversary of the local Jazz Club (directed by
Emilian Tantana), was recorded by ORF,the  Austrian national radio, and
then published on CD with the title 'Stories'. It documents perfectly
the music of this quartet;  Bontas and Weinberger play  energetic  jazz,
with no frippery, and  with long and well calibrated solos. Other
elements are the rythmic complexity and colorful harmonies. Essentialy
they come from mainstream, yet there is no shortag of various
influences, from Eastern European music to  rock music. The quartet is
completed with two of the most requested  Austrian jazz musicians,
Primus Sitter (from Villach) on guitar and Christian Wendt on “fretless
    bass” and electric bass.

    Formation:
Billy Bontas: drums - Primus Sitter: guitar - Christian Wendt: acoustic & electric bass - Manfred Paul Weinberger: trumpet
