Vast Expanses started jamming, writing, and rehearsing as a trio during 2004. In the Spring of 2005 they recorded and released their first CD, Falling Leaves. The CD is an 8 song collaboration of various styles and sounds. Ranging from Folk, Country, and Bluegrass to Funk, Latin Jazz, Blues, and Alternative; the CD is a melting pot of Amarican music. The cover song is even an old whalers tune from the 1850's. They played a number of dates locally and out of state to support the release. They regularly played on the stage of Red Rocks Amphitheatre, on days when there was no headline acts playing there. During the early part of 2006 Russ and Larry began writing and rehearsing new material. During this time Vast Expanses became an electro-acoustic duo. Two of the songs written at this time were recorded. The main song, Open, was entered into an online recording contest. Allthough it was well received, it did not win. The other song recorded titled, Oh Give Me A Home, was only recorded as a demo. But they have been writing and rehearsing new songs for an upcoming CD. They regularly practice their new and old songs for crowds at The Toad Tavern on Tues. nights, as they have for little over two years. There they have gained a great crowd of fans, local musicians and friends. They have played The Second Wind Foundation Festival, a benefit for suicide prevention. Thanks to thier fans they sold the most tix for a battle of the bands and were able to headline the show at The Oriental Theater. They qualified for the final wich is the prize round wich will be towards the end of summer '08. They recently played at The Larimer Lounge Summer BB-Q Series '08 and are always trying to book more shows. These guys always have a blast playing and really try to make sure everyone has one to.

Early reviews say: From the opening AC/DC inspired groove of “Cocaine” , a wickedly arranged cover of J.J. Cale’s narcotic classic, Black Robot serves instant notice with their self-titled debut that not only do they have it, they damn near destroyed the laboratory to get it. This mechanical/musical beast was conceived and constructed for the divine, ultimate destruction of brain cells, ear fibers and false perceptions about what it truly means to rock as if our very survival as a race depended on it. -Lonn Friend
