Electronics, glitches and real instruments mingle quite nicely, partly creating flowing ambient textures and sometimes going into the noise end. The material works best if the real instruments get a somewhat bigger role, such as in the somewhat abrupt ending piece 'Sousier'. In the limitation the master is shown. In a world with so many long CDs with repeated ideas for too long, this is a small treasure. Not highly original, but damn fine executed.

So this music is thoughtful, and a nice blend of sounds of all sorts. It's maybe also a bit dreamy because it remains in a certain hazy state. That's what might be missing out here, some direction of a sort. But after you bought this disc you'll have a wonderful half hour of music. And that for the price of seven euro's. A bargain!

Digital bearbeitete Fieldrecordings treffen auf Bass, Cello und Vibraphon, abstrakte Klänge mischen sich mit melodischen Elementen, konkreten Instrumental- und Störgeräuschen. Kurz und knapp sind die einzelnen Tracks, die CD insgesamt nicht mal zwanzig Minuten lang, unglaublich stimmig und auf den Punkt die Musik. Aus den Ideen hätte man auch locker siebzig Minuten Material herausholen können. Hat man aber nicht. Klasse.

Nuovo disco solista di Alexandr Vatagin dopo il debutto di "Valeot" pubblicato su Mirakelmusik nel 2006. Da quel disco e poi derivata la label che pubblica questo mini-album in cui malinconie strumentali vengono intrecciate a tiny-sounds elettronici e semplici melodie di archi. Stridori e bleep creano tracce minimali e bleep creano tracce minimali e di forma libera, a cui affidare il proprio spazio uditivo con attenzione e fiducia. Visioni eteree e voli pindarici diretti verso atmosfere rarefatte caratterizzano la fase conclusiva del percorso sonoro di "Shards", scuotendo gli umori ed innescando un piacevole senso di straniamento dovuto alla commistione di elementi acustici ed infiltrazioni elettroniche. Una buona overture per una prossima opera di maggior respiro.

"L'artiste viennois Alexandr Vatagin est un grand amateur d'instruments à cordes (particulièrement de basse et de violoncelle), mais également de glockenspiel, de vibraphone et bien sur d'électronique. Contrairement aux mélodies superbes mais un peu glaciales que je vous ai fait entendre la semaine dernière (Atom TM et Alva Noto), le travail de ce musicien est, tout en restant expérimental, plus proche d'un jazz abstrait ou d'un post rock instrumental et parfois vocal. L'ensemble est d'excellente facture tant par la qualité du jeu instrumental que par la belle rigueur des manipulations électroniques.

Op dit tweede plaatje(met een speeltijd van achttien minuten) onder zijn eigen naam ontvouwt hij zeven miniatuurtjes waarin veldopnames, cello, bas en vibrafoon vervlochten worden met digitaal gepiep, gekraak, gezoem en geruis. De land- en zeekaarten van het continent van de minimale elektro-akoestische muziek zijn inmiddels allemaal getekend. Terra incognita en aha-erlebnissen hoeft u op "Shards" dan ook niet te verwachten, zachtmoedige en wonderschone melancholie des te meer. En voor zij die het niet wisten: het voordeel van een korte plaat is dat je haar snel opnieuw kan beluisteren.

DJ ist der Scheichyerbouti, der das noch nie gemacht hat, aber einen ur super Musikgeschmack hat... ich glaub, dass wird ganz nett!

Abgerundet wird das ganze von meinem Lieblings-DJ; der Nino aus Wien, unterstützt von seinem Band-Drummer David... was die auflegen werden lässt sich immer schwer prognostizieren, aber gut wirds allemal...
