Sounds Like
I am me!
Who else could I be?
I don't try or even wish to sound like any other artist, we are all unique individuals! and hopefully remain so!
I'm a singer/songwriter based in Brixton, London SW9.
I'm sat here remembering when I first got the vibes to start singing, it was at home and at my old church back in Bristol my home town. I was born on a hot summers day in August to a mixed couple, my father came over from St. Thomas Jamaica back in 1957 and my beautiful mother born herself of mixed heritage Spanish/Irish.
I'm the 4th child in a family of 5 kids theirs me, 3 sisters and my brother the youngest, back in those days life was so different my father used to make sure that every Saturday he would get his saxophone out and put on the gram, me and my brother would sit and listen to him and sing along to the latest tunes of the day, you could leave your front door unlocked and not a soul would pass that step, Roots & lover's was the lick and Bob Marley, Janet Kay was kicking ass on Top of the Pops along with Barry Biggs, Aswad and the rest of the greats making reggae music popular in the UK, inspiring up and coming artists like myself.
After my 18th birthday I joined a group called the Vibes in Bristol
and started to compile my own lover's style of singing and writing lyric's, We enjoyed every show we did but saddly I left the group and went out on my own, I did quite a few shows here and there but was not happy doing that same routine I needed more!!
I move to London in 1998 "to find myself as they would say!"
during this period of my life I put myself through many college courses
and gained a wide knowledge of the IT world out there. But I still maintained
my singing and song writing, I then meet Fluximus and help start our company the BUC (Brixton Urban Collective) in 2001 and started to sing on different styles of music enabling me to explore my hidden talents, this was the answer to my prayers I could finally be myself.
I have talked with some famous people since the time I have spent around the BUC studio, like Vivian Jones, Ricky Ranking, the Stargate Family, Mikey Foreigner, Singing B and the rest of the Crew also actors like Malcolm McDowell, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers have graced our doorstep, we have so much fun at the Arch 269 everyone is like family.
Keep your eye's on this space for much more.
I am very proud to be a part of The 1st UK Reggae Heritage Awards event, which is in honour of cultural UK based artists, ambassadors and sound system owners, that have been representing reggae music for over 25 years but have received very little or no recognition for their works in the main UK music industry. All the artists appeared and sang there songs and most recieve awards, With it was a wonderful night and we all look forward to next years awards.
Here are some of the new friends I meet during the lead-up to the 1st UK Reggae Heritage Awards 2008
