Influences
Back in 1990 when we were fourteen years old, we were influenced by a bunch of vinyl albums we found that were owned by Dennis and Matt Cleary's older brothers, Tim and Sean. This eclectic collection included everything from The Pixies and Neil Young to Kraftwerk, The Flaming Lips, The Butthole Surfers, REM, Happy Flowers, and Daniel Johnston.
Our current influences include: the R&B singer Houston (here's peepin' at ya!), Cody & Gillette, Van Hunt, The Long Winters, Prince, Britney Spears, The Dwarves, Werner Herzog, and Kate Bush.
Vegetarian Meat was formed in 1990 in Dayton, Ohio by four high school students: Alex McAulay, Manish Kalvakota, Dennis Cleary and Matt Cleary. The band was signed by No.6 Records, a subsidiary of Elektra Records, while they were still in high school.
No.6 Records released two Vegetarian Meat seven inch singles and one full length album, titled "Let's Pet." Their first single, "Squirrels in My Pumpkin" looks like this:
The band broke up in 1995 but will reunite in 2015.

I've been listening to you guys since I was 14. I think my buddy and I saw a show up at the Elvis Room in Portsmouth, NH when I was back in high school. I pulled your record out last night to revisit and sang along the whole commute to work this morning. Lost my original CD unfortunately, but I still have the old cassette tape of the record somewhere. Couldn't get rid of it. Glad to see you guys pop up again. Thanks for the cuts.
