About me:
I finished up an M.A. in Intercultural Studies at Fuller Seminary in December. I wrote my thesis on the Emerging/Missional Church in Venezuela & Latin America. As for as my thesis advisor knows, this is the only research that has been done on the subject thus far.
I have been in Pasadena for two and a half years now. I love California. I am currently working two jobs--one as an admin at an environmental consulting firm here in Pasadena and the other as the missions coordinator at my church, the Pomona Vineyard.
Before moving to Pasadena I lived in Venezuela for three years (2001-2004) working with University students. I am fluent in Spanish. Some of my best friends in the world are Venezuelan. Among other experiences (riots, coups, and general strikes) and work (ESL classes, Bible studies and cell church planting), while living in Venezuela, my friends and I formed a Christian group that went to the beaches during the holidays and do temporary tattoos, hair wraps, volleyball, etc--all for free. We'd invite bands to come and play on the beach at night. It was great fun but a lot of the churches flipped out about it. I never knew what I had started was so incredibly controversial. The group is still going on..and still being preached against...hmmm....what would Jesus do?
Apart from where I have lived and what I have done...my family is all in Texas. I have a beautiful baby nephew who is the love of my life. His name is Nathaniel, and my sister-in-law is now pregnant with her second. Yeah!
I am an ENFJ on the Myers Briggs personality test, but it bugs me when people look at others entirely through the filter of those four letters.
Well, to wrap things up, my faith is very important to me. It has its ups and downs, and it is rough road to travel, but after trying hard to follow Jesus for half my life now, I know that it is worth it. He is the greatest adventure I've ever experienced. Everytime I think about abandoning Him (and there have been those moments) I realize that even though He doesn't make sense sometimes, even when I'm so mad I'm cussing Him out, and even when I totally disagree with what He has done and see no good in it....I just can't survive without Him. I just can't do it.
Pues, para terminar...si conoces a Venezuela, te tengo que decir que soy de Barlovento...pero no bailo tambor. jejeje.
