Shortly after the original Comet Gain line up split up in early 1997, four out of the five members continued with new band Velocette. A first single "Get Yourself Together,"was released soon after which received glowing press coverage from both NME and Melody Maker who made it "Single of the Week". The band then spent time touring with Kenickie, Saint Etienne and fellow Wiiija labelmates Bis. After an appearance at Bennicassim Festival and the Camden Crawl the band recorded their first Peel session. In 1998 the band released their first full length album "Fourfold Remedy". Described as "Merging elements of crazed rhythms, jazzy beats on top of relaxed folk openings that progress into explosive guitar chords" Velocette developed their own unique sound. Two singles were released from the album the second of which "BitterScene" was chosen as record of the week by the Mark and Lard show on Radio 1.
The Soft City play our debut show Thursday, May 14th, at the Cake Shop, on Ludlow St. If you are in NYC and can make it to our first show we are on at about 7:45. We have a special guest Pop Star-type chap playing bass.
It promises to be a great night, with Knight School, Dream Bitches, The Metric Mile, My Teenage Stride, and The Ballet too.
The night is the first installment of the NYC Popfest 2009 extravaganza and we're very excited to be a tiny part of it - see below for deatils.

Get Yourself Together is my most played tune according to iTunes. I vaguely remember speaking to Sarah about it when you supported St Et at Portsmouth, asking why you'd re-recorded it for the album because original was perfect as it was (I still stand by that comment too).
Nice one! we've been meaning to set this up for donkeys and finally got round to it...will try and post up some unreleased stuff...perfume is a Paris Angels track that we covered for a Bside back in the day! xx
