Influences
Holy cow, you name it.
We love blues, but the wide range of stuff we listen to comes out in our music.
It just HAS to.
Velveeta Jones is a hard-hitting electric blues band from central Kentucky.
Formed during the summer of 2001, their sound was classic power trio in a decidedly blues vein but given their diverse musical backgrounds in country, bluegrass and rock and roll, those influences came through in the blues tunes they loved. Rather than downplay those diverse influences for the blues purists, they embraced them, giving a new sound to old standards as well as charting a course for their own material to come.
Things were coming together nicely for the band when their drummer, Duane Miller, was called back to active military duty after 9-11 and Sondra Presley took leave for some much-needed R & R. As a result, the band was put on the shelf for three and a half years. Over the winter of 2004/2005 they reunited, and with everyone healthy and ready to play they rekindled the fire that is Velveeta Jones.
They're showing no signs of slowing down in 2007/2008, having already played this past March as backing band for Chicago's "Daughter of The Blues" Shirley King (daughter of blues legend B.B. King) and sax guru Gerald Noel of Junior Walker and the All-Stars fame. In September 2007, they won the regional Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge in Louisville and competed in Memphis on the world stage.
Duane Miller has once again answered the call of duty and will be serving overseas during a portion of 2008/2009, so the band will welcome in his absence drummer Reed Sanders...a veteran of Charlie Daniels' touring band in the early days of that music legend's career.
Look for more good things from this band in the near future!

Hey guys and gal! I hope to make it to the Blues Fest at the State Dock on Saturday! We're promoting it hard and heavy on Q97 and Lake 1023. What time do you think you will be playing in case I'm running late?
Is there a recording project coming up anywhere in the near future? Those of us who live a gazillion miles away from Kentucky are in need of some Velveeta Jones!!
Good luck with the festival on the 20th at State Dock. Unfortunately we are playing in Tennessee that night or we would be there to root you on! We will tell as many folks that we can to come and join ya. You all are great! KTB
may i just say that you guys TOTALLY rocked tonight. i mean you totally blew me away. NOW i know why everyone was all excited about seeing you at cruiser's. you totally did rock the stage today.
so much, in fact, and the members of "that other BIG band" came out of their bus to watch / listen to you play. they didn't do that for anyone else that i saw. i would take that as a compliment if i were you :)
p.s. i have pix to prove that they did this. i just have to edit them and post them. LOL
i am going to try my very bestest to see you all play tonight. i've been wanting to see you play for a while but not been able to yet. hopefully tonight i will finally be able to see y'all and take some pix :)
