LOS PINGUOS and ASHLEY MAHER AND HER BIG GLOBAL BAND-- PLAYING AT THE VENICE MUSIC FESTIVAL 09/16/07
Venice, CA: Once again, the Venice Community Housing Corporation (VCHC) will host the Venice Music Festival on Sunday, Sunday, September 16, 2007. A trio of annual events including a brunch, a silent auction and the Music Festival concert will raise money for the VCHC’s ongoing efforts to provide affordable housing, social and family support services to low-income families and at-risk youth in Los Angeles.
The Festival will begin at 2:00 and continue until 5:00 in an expanded performance space around the Palms Court, located at 733-743 Palms Blvd. A suggested donation of $5 is requested for the Venice Music Festival.
Scheduled to perform at the Venice Music Festival are (descriptions and photos of each band available on request):
• Ashley Maher and her Big Global Band. ASHLEY MAHER (surname rhymes with “star”) is an original — a singer-composer-bandleader who lives in the industrial West yet is truly at home with African and other world music traditions. Her highly individual and infectious brand of world/folk/jazz has gained her an international following, four acclaimed albums, and performances with several major African icons.
• Argentinean rockers “Los Pinguos,” who will be sure to have the audience dancing with their mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban Tres, Peruvian cajón (box-drum) and harmonizing vocals. A Venice Festival favorite, Los Pinguos are a Venice Music Festival favorite.
The Silent Auction will be set up along Palms Blvd. in front of the courts from 11 am to 5 pm. Many of the items available for bidding, including art, restaurant gift certificates, personal and professional services, were donated by VCHC Board members and supporters.
There will be some activities for children so bring the whole family!
