Venice, CA: Once again, the Venice Community Housing Corporation (VCHC) will host the Venice Music Festival on Sunday, Sunday, September 20, 2009. A trio of annual events including a brunch, a silent auction and the Music Festival concert will raise money for the VCHC’s ongoing efforts to provide affordable housing, social and family support services to low-income families and at-risk youth in Los Angeles.
The Festival will begin at 2:00 and continue until 5:00 in an within Palms Court, located at 733-743 Palms Blvd. A suggested donation of $20 is requested for the Venice Music Festival.
Scheduled to perform at the Venice Music Festival are (descriptions and photos of each band available on request):
• Susie Hansen Latin Band performs first. According to Don Heckman of the Los Angeles Times, Susie “creates a brand of music that is as physically moving as it is intellectually stimulating.” Her all-star band features George Balmaseda on lead vocals, Joe Rotondi on keyboards, Rene Camacho on bass and Jimmy Branly on timbales, among other great musicians.
• ADAAWE” ADAAWE is seven dynamic, diverse women creating rich organic music of the voice and drum, which comes from the heart and speaks to the soul! In the Adaawe tradition of Ghana, West Africa, women gather in the moonlight to create music and sing songs about life’s joys and sorrows. Through constant improvisation, they breathe new life into ancient music. Their spirit of celebration and strength is the inspiration behind ADAAWE.
The Silent Auction will be set up along Palms Blvd. in front of the courts from 11 am to 5 pm. Many of the items available for bidding, including art, restaurant gift certificates, personal and professional services, were donated by VCHC Board members and supporters.
