Vento Trio performs new music by composers of the Americas, specializing in Brazilian and dance-inspired repertoire that crosses boundaries of jazz and classical traditions. The group is comprised of bassoonist Janet Grice, clarinetist Sarah Bednarcik and flutist Kevin Willois. They began playing together at Rutgers University in 2003 and since then performed in France, in NYC at Solar One and the Cornelia St. Cafe, concerts throughout New York and New Jersey, and International Double Reed Conferences at Ball State University and Ithaca College. They were awarded grants from the American Composers Forum for collaboration on new works by Jovino Santos Neto and Weber Iago that incorporate improvisation, and released a CD, Brazilian Dances and Inventions, in 2006. Previous season’s performances featured the music of Bozza, Guerra Peixe, D’Rivera, Joplin, Villa-Lobos and Pixinguinha. Last year they premiered new works by American composers in the post-modern tradition by Mark N. Grant, Janet Grice and Erik Lindgren. Vento Trio presents masterclasses, residencies and interactive childrens’ concerts.
