Vera is a rock venue since around 1974 featuring concerts, movies and dance nights. Bands that later became famous first played here: Joy Division, U2, The White Stripes, Sonic Youth, Nirvana and many, many more.
It has two halls with bar: the main hall (capacity 500) and a smaller one (cap. 80) in the former vaults (dating from the 15th century).
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays (and sometimes Sundays) are concert nights.
On Tuesdays you can watch an arthouse movie and on Saturdays visit a support your local scene band from Groningen or elsewhere in the Netherlands (and from abroad) in the downstage bar.
Saturday nights are dancenights (from 23.30 till 04.00), with one of our resident DJ's. Their motto: the danceable side of underground and the undergound side of dance.

ROCKIN ON PAPER. THE VERA CLUB: A HISTORY IN POSTERS
'Rockin on Paper' is a 320 pages full color history on the Vera Club and it's posters. The Vera Club in Groningen has been renowned for being a cool place to perform for the alternative music scene. Part of it's charm are the posters: silk screened with lots of original artwork. Mementos for both audience and band. This book contains a broad selection of the archived posters (more than 300) between the really early years and somewhere around 2005. Next to it a short historical overview of the Club and some personal memories on some of the -for a variety of reasons- more memorable performances. Interviews with: Lee Ranaldo, Mick Collins, Lou Barlow, Kim Gordon, David Yow, Ross Knight.
Text is in both Dutch and English.
With the book comes a DVD containing original live footage shot at and by the VERA Club itself. Exciting performances by: the Gunclub, Monster Magnet, Dead Moon, Giant Sand, Sebadoh, Cosmic Psychos, the Gories, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Dinosaur jr., Sonic Youth and Beat Happening
Thnaks for the add. Hope you like our crusty prog. Played at the Vera many moons ago with the heads supporting Motorpsycho. Would love to play there soon again. One of the best venues we've ever played.

It's like Oasis never went & ruined Manchester pop with them eyebrows................
Both bands will be playing Leiden's Sub 071 on Friday 17th and Groningen's Vera Saturday 18th in an all nighter.
Leiden's Sub 071 is tiny but cute, so bring Heads and/or those you want to bed... Groningen is in the spirit of the Night Tripper in 1966, all night confusion with moments of accidental beauty, woah!
