It was a mundane Boston night when the uplifting decision was made to form what is now know as Verb The Adjective Noun. As a trio, Shay Spence, Alexander Krispin, and Luc Laurent got together to play old and new tunes, without restriction to standard instrumentation. As folk influenced writers, the trio agreed on the use of simplicity and raw energy, an element that has become the cornerstone of the present day folk/rock quintet.
Shortly after agreeing on a set of five songs that worked well for the band, the three boys got together in an abandoned chapel to record their first EP, titled Novella. With limited resources, the record was finished in the summer of '08 after two months of recording. Through the application of old school punk attitude to the more traditional American song form, the band received a lot of recognition for having an innovative sound, while maintaining the ability to directly relate to any listener. All the meantime, the local scene began to experience the Verb live show as an energetic, unrehearsed, angst-filled thirty minute set. After playing the majority of the independent venues in Boston, Cambridge, and Allston, the band decided to venture on to new songs and a new EP, titled Reds. The recording of this compilation was split between Mix One Studios and their home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Reds EP was released in December of '08 with a higher level of production, as it included bass and a full drumset. In order to recreate the full sound of the album and maintain the energy, the band took on Wayne Whittaker and James Bookert. Through taking in two more players that shared the mindset of maintaining simplicity while maximizing energy during shows, the band has grown into itself in a way no one would have imagined.
Prior to the second EP, Verb has been playing as much as possible outside of Boston, including locations in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. As life goes, the time for Boston has expired, and the band is soon to cross the United States with Los Angeles as the destination. The fall tour starts in mid September.
"...I recommend getting on them early. Alt-folk shuffles up against expansive pop latticework - sing-a-long choruses a guarantee. Early Flaming Lips by way of My Morning Jacket? Get ready to act like you knew them when." - Lawyers Guns and Money
"...performed an amazing set with a new sound they created all their own. Led by Shay & Alex's very original vocal styling's their music crossed through country, punk and rock n roll roots. This band will surely be making some headway through the Boston scene." - Hear Now Live
