Since their formation in the late Summer of 2004, Verismo has earned an energetic reputation amongst fans and venues as the live band with the ability to truly entertain! They incorporate elements of opera, hip-hop, jazz, classical, ska and monki-punk, but have succeeded in creating a sound that is uniquely their own - thrilling audiences through the up-beat rhythms, infectious melodies and their unforgettable live performance!
Founding members Mark Schellhas (guitar) and Antonio Cencherle (keyboards) first met when they were still at school together and after spending a couple of years abroad, Mark returned to SA and asked Antonio to start a band together. Soon they were joined by other ex-school mates Mark Chandler (drums) and bass enthusiast Mark Scholtz. Vaughan de Villiers (lead singer), who studied together with Antonio and Robin Botha (opera singer) at the South African College of Music, completed the special variety of musical influence: the sextet that would soon name itself "Verismo" - after the 18th Century period of "realism" in art&music.
Verismo has since then performed at Festivals around South Africa and alongside other national artists such as Chris Chameleon, Goldfish, Bed on Bricks, Lark, Flat Stanley and many more...
