Singer, songwriter, musician, producer and not one to suffer fools lightly.
Brought up in suburban England, Vernette's own brand of personal malevolence and 'Suburban Poison' is vented though her lyrics and music.
"My song writing reflects my mood, my mood affects my life, my life affects my song writing, light and dark, happy and sad although the prevailing theme is usually that of a darker nature sometimes with a feeling of inner frustration and a deep bubbling aggression. A talent, an art or creative side is there in everyone to exhale all these inner feelings that may not be acceptable in everyday life, whether it is through painting, music or acting, some people may express things through hobbies. I express all emotions in my songs, it's a way of cleansing the mind".
Self taught and tortured - 'don't throw your calm at me when I'm on fire - you'll be the one to burn - I'm a live wire'....'Live Wire'2002
Fed on a diet of what defines a 'woman' by the media and people around her, Vernette felt very different and isolated from that as an adolescent, as do a lot of young girls, hence the anorexia and other self image problems suffered by girls today.
Always one to play and experiment with make up and hair, Vernette eventually found a veil she could feel reasonlably happy behind, happy in the knowledge that many of the most beautiful women in Hollywood films from the 40's & 50's (that she aspires to) have relied upon extra help to make the most of themselves and that it's okay to be different from what's expected! "I love dressing up, always have!"
Vernette first started to play guitar and record in 1992 (but had written short poems and stories for many years beforehand, most of which she had thrown away as nonsense). Through this a certain amount of, surprise (at being able to play something!), and focus was achieved, and it was something to look forward to. She mainly covered favourite songs by favourite artists, (of which there are many) as well as writing her own compositions and performing them on a home recording basis (a learning curve, and her introduction to musicianship, song writing and music technology). The majority of Vernette's work then, originated on analog recording equipment, as either demos or finished pieces produced on a Tascam Port III 4 track home studio (although a standard tape deck was used for years and always recording far more tracks than what the equipment is meant for). The later work is fully digital.
Working as a music engineer gave Vernette the experience she needed, to know that she preferred being in front of the mixing desk and not behind it.
A range of Vernette's music can be heard on three CD collections, 'Ultra Violence','Suburban Poison' 'Exposed' and one CD EP 'Live Wire', comprising the best (at the time of release) of both analog and digital recordings, including the latest offerings 'Live Wire' & 'Exposed', (Also available on norecordlabel.com).
November 04: tracks completed for the Exposed Ep and have been compiled with previous releases in one CD
