Greg Jacobs started the group "weeping in fits and starts" in the early 90's mostly as a studio project. But he was also always attempting to have a real functioning band he could work with on a regular basis. He worked with a revolving cast of musicians, until 1996, when Ryan Veilleux answered an ad for a band looking for a "Motown meets My Bloody Valentine" kind of sound. While Ryan started out on bass, he soon was settling in on lead guitar, and the band started moving in a new direction. In 2000, after enlisting the solid beats of Michael Steigman, who they serendipitously met thru a mutual friend who was a longtime fan of the band as well, the time for a name change was at hand, and Verona Downs was born. They have played many shows since 2000, among the highlights an opening slot for Daniel Johnston and Mary Lou Lord in 2002, and have plowed thru a lot of material in the interim. The band finally released its debut album, "I Listen Thru All The Breaking Oceans" in 2004, to wide critical acclaim. Shortly after the album and the departure of their former bassist/ backing vocalist, Lori Murphy, Verona Downs discovered ex-Permanent Vacation singer/songwriter from California Meghan Barnes. The Verona men enlisted her on bass and back-up vocals, allowing the band to grow into a more fleshed-out and collaborative unit.
In 2006, The Veronas began their campaign to conquer the rock world (releasing the Light Reaction EP), with their second full length release planned for 2008, entitled "Family Bed". The title refers to the intricacies, trials and experiences of family life both at home, including births, deaths, relationships and break-ups, as well as in the band itself, with it's own intimate and family-like relationships, in the studio and on the stage.

A few reasons to listen to Harriet Street:
1) Just look at how sexy we are. Could 4 men this incredibly gorgeous make anything less than incredible music?
2) We are very polite. We say things like "that would be lovely" and refer to our elders as "Sir" and "Ma'am".
3) We have a whole lot of myspace friends. Could anything be cooler than that? No.
4) Nowhere in this comment did we say "thanks for the add"...except right here, but that doesn't count, because it's in quotation marks.
Hopefully these 4 reasons will be enough to gain your eternal love and support and we'll see you at a show here in MA sometime soon!
All the love in the world,
Brian, Andrew, Jeff, and Kevin
