About Veronica Johnny

Singer/songwriter Veronica Johnny hails from the sub-arctic community of Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, Canada. Cree, Chipeywan, Ojibwa, and Mohawk bloodlines percolate proudly through her viens. A spiritual aboriginal artist, Veronica's solo work explores themes of love, healing, culture and identity. Veronica is also the lead singer and rythmn guitarist of a four-piece rock'n'roll band, The JOHNNYS. The group is best described as fast-paced, spontaneous combustion paced by the driving beats of Veronica's drummer/husband, Dave Johnny. Dave & Veronica Johnny launched The JOHNNYS in 2003, shortly after they met playing in a Northwest Territories-based bar band and in 2005 they relocated to Toronto. The JOHNNYS pride themselves on bashing out short, rapid-fire anthems. Their high-octane garage-punk invites crowds to a blitz of sweaty, frenzied dancing. Kicking off a hot Saturday night lineup including fellow Aboriginal scenesters, Diggin’ Roots, The JOHNNYS hit the Hard Rock Café stage at Yonge and Dundas, in the heart of downtown Toronto, at 9 p.m. sharp on March 14th. For tickets and information, go to www. canadianmusicfest. com “We’re psyched to be part of showcasing new Canadian music and showing the world what we have to offer,” says drummer Dave Johnny. “Bring your dancin’ shoes and a change of clothes; it’s gonna get sweaty. ” The JOHNNYS have recently returned from the Northwest Territories - where the group was founded - a trip including live radio performances and an all-ages show for 900 students, as well as theatre and club dates.
