“Heartbeats never fade...” -- “Heartbeats” Versant delivers epic-pop, and Heartbeats, the debut EP, documents a band eager to push the envelope of both the modern studio and the live stage. The brainchild of Carah Faye Charnow, former frontwoman of the Grammy-nominated Shiny Toy Guns, and producer Daniel Johansson, Versant dwells in the ether of great pop synthesists like M.I.A. and Arcade Fire -- artists who are redefining modern pop and creating a niche that extends deep into the mainstream. “Our goal was to start new chapters in our lives without drawing from our past ones,” explains Charnow about her collaboration with Johansson, who also produced 2009’s Crossing the Rubicon for fellow Swedes The Sounds. “This was truly a fresh start, and for that to be worth it, we really had to make sure everything was just how we wanted it.” A lengthy recording process yielded deft pop collages that meld the organic and the digital: at any moment, saloon-style pianos or otherworldly synth swoops will punctuate Charnow’s soaring, multi-layered vocals. Listeners are left continually surprised by what the next musical moment will reveal. “We had one rule for ourselves: ‘How does it make us feel?’ Whether or not other people would like it only weighed us down and made us compromise.” Online anticipation continues to build for the release, and the band has been reaching out with highly personal video postcards and performances, including an impromptu cover of “S.O.S” by Abba that was chosen by fans in an online poll. The video comments reveal fans’ connection with the music as well as a deep loyalty towards the band’s charismatic frontwoman. Expectations are clearly high, and with Heartbeats, Versant has exceeded them. Still, Charnow promises more to come. “We've put everything we have into the songs on this EP, as well as many more we have yet to show. We want as many ears as will listen to have the chance to experience our music.” With the same ambitious smile that is evident in the music, she adds, “That said, I want to see it everywhere!” .................. ............

Bio:

Sweden, the unofficial headquarters of epic-creative-pop, seems an inevitable launching pad for Versant. Led by Carah Faye, former frontwoman of the Grammy-nominated Shiny Toy Guns, and produced by fellow band-mate Daniel Johansson, Versant synthesizes the melodicism of a true pop siren with up-to-the-minute textures that can ignite both dance floors and dirty rock clubs. “Versant is a summation of dreams,” says Carah Faye. “It’s music we believe ‘belongs’ but is rarely understood, much less brought to reality.” Lyrically, Faye draws from real-life experiences and reveals their difficult, but ultimately transcendent, lessons: “I will wait for the truth to find me/ But I will never leave it to you” (“Out of Touch”). The band has a goal of encouragement and inspiration through their music as well as hoping to “help people to heal or be inspired to reach for more.” Johansson and Faye met in the most organic of ways—on the road. Johansson worked as a front of house engineer for Shiny Toy Guns as well as for fellow Swedes The Sounds, who tapped him to produce the title track of their 2009 release, Crossing the Rubicon. Similarly, Johansson met drummer Richard Ankers on the road with Anker's previous band Melody Club. Along with Ankers, bassist Nicholas Oja, who Johansson met while living in LA in 2005, and Grettve, who had been a childhood friend, they became the three obvious choices for Johansson and Faye to invite on the envisioned journey. Unsurprisingly, they draw artistic inspiration from a diverse playlist. “Mew, Kent, Coldplay, The Cardigans and Michael Jackson have been in rotation in 2009—anybody with an individual sound who likes espresso and walks on the beach,” Carah laughs. Now splitting their time between Sweden, where they will be touring through November, and America, which will feature a highly anticipated showcase at South by Southwest. Versant is in the process of putting the final touches on their self-released EP, due out March 23rd, 2010. Reaction to demos posted on their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/versantmusic) has been unanimous: Although only debuting, Versant exceeds high expectations, and introduces loyal fans to a bristling new musical collaboration. .. ....
