Vertigo Venus is like putting The Dead Kennedys, Queen and Gary Numan into a blender and hitting "Awesome".
Vertigo Venus was established in 2002 as a unique and original Rock duet consisting of brothers Jeff Cannon (Keyboards/Lead Vocals) and Chris Cannon (Guitars/Backing Vocals). As time progressed, they recruited Ken Cornell (Bass), brian botkiller (Drums/Percussion) and Reverend Buddy Systems (Keyboards) to create of one of the most riotous Synthpunk/Rock bands to take a stage. With Jeff’s front man antics reminiscent of Iggy Pop and Freddie Mercury leading the band, the boys kick out high-energy original tunes including “Monday Mourning”, “Vampire Hunter C”, and the ultra-catchy, sing-along-like-you-mean it “Punk Rock Cheerleader”, and even a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “She bop”. One thing is for sure; you won’t soon forget a Vertigo Venus live show.
Live? Yes, quite alive. The band has shared live bills with the likes of Blue Oyster Cult, War, Chemlab, and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, and more. They’ve been a mainstay in New Mexico’s annual Gay Pride festival, and the Southwest’s longest running electronic music festival, Oscillation. They know that this is the entertainment business – and that’s what they come to do; entertain you like never before. With a sound that takes the listener from Punk to Industrial Glam Dance faster than you can say “Brutal”, the band truly takes the stage and gives the crowd what they’re looking for.
In 2008, Vertigo Venus saw merchandise sales and popularity swell as they opened for Mindless Self Indulgence and the Birthday Massacre, putting their first CD, “Sing Pretty!” out of print. Their second outing, “Run for your lives”, is close to following suit. Their shirts and stickers can’t be kept on the shelves of popular stores in Malls and on the internet. The third album, slated for a 2009 release on DSBP records, is sure to take the band to the next level. Fans are rabid for Vertigo Venus’ sound and persona, and it shows in their huge hits to their Website and Myspace pages everyday, along with their great turnouts to their shows at venues in their hometown and the Southwestern states.
The band has kept busy outside bars and clubs as well. In 2008 they took on the role Glam Punk Rockers “The Angry Inch” in The Vortex Theatre’s stage production of John Cameron Mitchell’s “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”. A month and a half long run garnered reviews as fanatic as the original New York production, with more heart in the music than ever seen before. The band’s versatility and creativity came through in creating a new and fresh image for the world-renown production.
Vertigo Venus is consistently looking to write fresh, innovative and creative music with heart and soul behind it. This is a band who loves what they do, and loves playing. The bond between the five members has only grown in the time they’ve been together, and will only continue to grow as they work to be the best at what they do.
Vertigo Venus is a band you won’t soon forget, with originality unheard of, and a drive to create unrivaled by your everyday band. If you want a band that delivers on all fronts, you want Vertigo Venus.
