La-Di-Da was born in 2004, sprung from a more established, 9 girl group – Rendezvous – who had been performing for over 20 years. Beth McLean, the creative talent behind Rendezvous, performs with fellow singer Lesley Worrall. Both established performers in the local area, we sing in a wide variety of situations apart from with Rendezvous.
Beth works as a teacher of singing and piano and runs two Stagecoach Theatre Arts Schools for young performers. She continues to write and arrange for Rendezvous - a sophisticated all female instrumental and singing group. She has also written musicals for children, hymns, anthems and was recently commissioned to write a Blues mass setting which was performed by Rendezvous.
Lesley sings in groups and choirs in Guildford and frequently as a soloist at social functions, concerts and weddings and combines classical singing styles with a more relaxed blues numbers. She sings with jazz / pop duo Fahrenheit (see friends below!) Her day job is Head of Geography and ICT in a local girls’ school.
In August 2004 La-Di-Da performed A Classic Whine, an original show penned by Beth McLean (with a little help from some great composers) - a collection of humourous, satirical and comical songs linked to relevant works of great masters – whose music is also heard performed by the greatest orchestras!
In 2005, Classic Canapés expanded the stories that the composers never got around to. Beth gleaned the best melodies the world has ever produced and matched them with a clever and subtle link to topical themes.
Stories of bored choirboys waiting for the bride to walk up the aisle (Handel's Water Music); the confusion of a transsexual trying to fit in with the right hair-do (sung to Saint Saens’ Samson and Delilah; the tale of the murderous Italian pizzeria owner (Vivaldi’s Four Seasons) and the frustrations of being in the opera chorus with nothing else to do but hum! (The Humming Chorus).
Sung with grace and style by mezzo-soprano/chameleon voice, Beth who has teamed up with Lesley whose voice has the ability to ascend where Beth’s cannot.
Following success and 4 star reviews at Edinburgh, Beth and Lesley have taken their new Sparkling Whines tour to theatres in the south east and to the Brighton Fringe in May and continue to perform in shows and private functions locally.
