Vesuvius is a band from the greater Sacramento area. They came together in the summer of 2006 and have been working hard ever since. Now they’re ready to play for you with their hair whipping, energetic live performances of original songs. They play a blend of Blues/Metal with a heavy sound all their own. Ben lays down some funky grooves and bass solos. Austin hammers out some of the best beats you’ve every heard. And BJ wails out his crunchy leads and riffs. They are currently recording a demo and writing lots of great music. If you are interested in booking Vesuvius, leave them a message and they’ll get back to you right away.
The following is a review of Vesuvius's August Club Retro show Written by local reviewer Terry Banger
Vesuvius: Ash and Flame
Song 3 in my featured local artist series: Deadman Blues by Vesuvius.
Vesuvius is a volcano. Not just any volcano. It's mighty fury has buried the city of Pompeii beneath ash and fire not just once, but twice in the last 2000 years. It hits hard, leaves destruction in it's wake, and never looks back. And, after hearing them live on Thursday, I can honestly say I believe Vesuvius took more than their name from the volcano. As some of you know, I am a Father who has taken it upon himself to assure that my daughter has good taste in all things; food, clothing, art, books, and especially Music. Taking the advice of my friend and bandmate, Jerry, I decided to take my 15 month old daughter along to a show at Club Retro. Hanging out with what can only be described as a rag-tag trio of teenagers, I felt compelled to see what these goof-offs could do. Ben, the bass player, could best be described as a gentle giant. I am not sure Austin, their drummer, knows what "Settle down" means. And it shows onstage. I've heard their music before on myspace and in the CD player, but after seeing them live, I can say it is like looking at pictures of skydiving; cool, but I'd rather be there, experiencing it. Vesuvius comes out of the gates running. And with youth comes energy. Vesuvius flat out rocks. There is no other word for it. After hearing so many wannabe metal bands, and wishy washy hardcore bands, I had forgotten why headbanging existed. Vesuvius reminded me. In this musicians humble opinion, they are the only band in Sacramento with a right to headbang. All three members feature not only a talent for their instrument, each member sings. And the three very different voices blend well. And none stand out. They, at such a young age, have zeroed in on what makes a band stand out: a single musical unit that makes each member seem strongest when he is not alone. All in all, Vesuvius is a fun-for-everyone, American as apple pie and blowin stuff up, rockin, stompin good band. These guys are going somewhere. And wherever it is, they are probably going to bury it in ash and flame. ..
