    Meet Our Board Certified Surgeons:

  • BRIAN T. HUSS, DVM, MS
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons, CEO and Chief of Staff at Vetcision
  • Dr. Huss is a board certified specialist in veterinary surgery. Shortly after his residency Dr. Huss founded Veterinary Surgical Referrals, a mobile veterinary surgical practice that operated in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. This practice was joined with the specialty practice the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center of New England, LLC (VESCONE) that he co-founded in 2001. The surgical department at VESCONE was re-organized into Vetcision, LLC in 2004. Upon receiving his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the Ohio State University in 1989, Dr. Huss was selected as a small animal intern at the California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles. He completed his small animal surgical residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1994. During his residency, Dr. Huss completed a Master of Science program in veterinary medicine and surgery, with an emphasis in surgery and emergency and critical care medicine. In 1996, Dr. Huss passed all of the requirements, and was accepted as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He has professional membership with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, American Veterinary Medical Association, Massachusetts Veterinary Medica Association, Metro West Veterinary Association, Veterinary Association of the North Shore, Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society, Society for Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery, Veterinary Orthopedic Society, and the International Association for the Study of Internal Fixation (AO-ASIF).
  • JOHN A. BENSON, DVM
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons
  • Dr. John A. Benson joined Vetcision as staff surgeon in 2002. Dr. Benson is a graduate of the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1995. After two years in private practice he completed an internship in medicine and surgery at Sonora Veterinary Surgery and Oncology in Scottsdale, Arizona. The internship’s primary areas of emphasis were critical care, surgical oncology, and orthopedics. After his internship, Dr. Benson was selected to participate in a 3-year residency in a small animal surgery at the Foster Hospital at Tufts University in Grafton, Massachusetts. Upon completion of his residency in 2001, Dr. Benson spent an additional year of advanced fellowship training at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. The fellowship provides surgeons with the opportunity to lead a team of residents, interns and students in a fast-paced, clinical environment. The fellowship also provides study time and guidance to prepare for the surgery board examination. Dr. Benson completed the fellowship and became board certi?ed by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2002. Dr. Benson’s extensive training has allowed him to gain insight and expertise from specialists all over the country. He is proficient in both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery with keen interests in thoracic surgery, surgical oncology, (complex) fracture repair, and joint surgery. Dr. Benson’s goal is to always provide a superior level of compassionate, progressive surgical care for his patients.
