THE KILLERS
The Killers will be playing their first shows of 2009 in support of their brilliant forthcoming album, Day & Age.
The Killers' live show has taken on new dimensions thanks to the incredible songs found on their highly anticipated new record, Day & Age. Produced by Stuart Price (Les Rhythmes Digitales), Day & Age is The Killers at their very best. With 12 million sales under their belts already, Day & Age is filled with the soaring vocals, epic choruses and the remarkable songwriting that has won them legions of fans, radio and chart hits, and multiple awards worldwide. First single "Human" is a bona fide radio smash.
SNOW PATROL
Compelling, enchanting, guitar heroes ... describing the music genius of Snow Patrol is pretty difficult. Grammy-Award nominated Snow Patrol love Australia, so no doubt these Northern Irish charmers are poised to captivate audiences as co-headliners of V Festival 2009. The Guardian recently wrote "Snow Patrol are poised to eclipse Coldplay as pop's greatest anthem-makers." The band propelled themselves into public consciousness, particularly thanks to their beautiful epic 'Chasing Cars'. And now they have sold over an incredible 7 million albums. Touted as one of the biggest bands in the world at the moment, it is our absolute pleasure to welcome Snow Patrol to our shores.
KAISER CHIEFS
The UK's Kaiser Chiefs return to Australia off the back of their just released and hugely successful 3rd album 'Off With Their Heads'. Featuring the hit singles 'Never Miss A Beat' and the brand new 'Good Days Bad Days' from the album produced by Mark Ronson. The Kaiser Chief's won world-wide acclaim in 2005 and 2007 for their albums 'Employment' and 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob'. Their live show is nothing short of spectacular : energetic, exciting and a bag full of anthems..... 'I Predict A Riot', 'Ruby', 'Everything Is Average Nowadays', 'Na Na Na Na Naa', 'The Angry Mob', Everyday I Love You Less And Less', 'Never Miss A Beat' and more. Having just toured in the U.K, Europe and the U.S. the boys are ready to tear the stage apart when they touch down for V Festival.
MADNESS
Madness exist in one way as the group you think you know because of all their inedible hit singles, when they ruled the roost, and the antic highly coloured videos that went with them, all the way, but who exist in other ways as well. So they are Madness, as nutty, nifty and natty as the cliches goes, don't watch that watch this, living in their house, where they wear the baggy trousers, lovers and husbands and fathers and sons, brothers and best of friends, nothing more, nothing less, the working man's Pink Floyd, public house romantics, maybe it's because they are Londoners, there's no place like home, and they are also Madness, free from sentimentality and soft soap, shrewd and sharp vernacular artists, provocative, touching anglo-surrealists, domestic dramatists, psychedelic ska struck sages, strategic Camden groove gentlemen connecting the mysterious dots between Magritte and the Maytals, there'll never be anymore of their kind, treasure them, in old money and in new.
ELBOW
Receiving accolades from artists such as Coldplay, Snow Patrol and R.E.M, Elbow are a much anticipated act on V Festival. They bagged the Mercury Music Prize this year, beating amongst others Laura Marling and Radiohead, and have once again delighted fans with their exquisite latest album. NME described The Seldom Seen Kid as "a stunning record, a career-best from a band whose consistency has seldom been matched by any British indie band this decade." Acclaimed for their melancholic sound, and evocative lyrics, they are one of contemporary music's true mavericks. The band's 12 year career has seen them release 4 studio albums, 4 EPs and 10 top fifty singles in the UK. There is no doubt, that Elbow will charm the living daylights out of V Festival punters.
DUFFY
It's been pretty hard to avoid noticing the sensational debut by Welsh pop singer Duffy. Her album Rockferry has not only become the best selling album in the UK this year, but also reached number 1 in 11 countries. Drawing comparisons to Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield, this Welsh chanteuse is set to woo Australian audiences with her stunning live show.
THE HUMAN LEAGUE
After much time spent mulling over their various options the band again defied their critics and the overwhelming sense of lethargy that can overcome 'older' acts by signing to new label 'Papillion' and, in 2001, released the widely acclaimed 'Toy' produced album 'Secrets', the first single from which 'All I ever Wanted' was the bands first Top 40 hit since 1995. To round out their 30th anniversary year, The Human League have just recently concluded a sold out European tour where they have for the first time ever played the groundbreaking album 'Dare' in it's entirety.
RAZORLIGHT
One of the most hyped bands of this millennium, Razorlight bring their swag of tricks to Australia as apart of the already gigantic V Festival lineup. After packing out shows across Europe, US and Japan, Johnny Borrell and his handsome friends will now bring their popular live show down to our shores for a few special perfomances which have had critics losing their shit everywhere. Having supported the likes of The Who, Oasis and The Libertines, the Razorlight juggernaut has not stop rolling since the release of their first offering Up All Night back in 2003. Now with their new album Slipway Fires having reached 4 on the UK charts, the band will be showcasing already popular new tunes as well as everyone's faves including Golden Touch, Somewhere Else and America when they grace the V Festival stages later this year.
THE KILLS
The Kills formed in 2000 when a boy from Andover, England and a girl from Florida, USA met in a South London hotel. "It was like we'd lived parallel lives", Jamie recalls. Both had been to art college, the boy had just left a punk-pop band called Scarfo and the girl wanted to leave a punk-pop band called Discount, and both were disillusioned with the musical scenes they were part of. "We had these bedrooms on different sides of the Atlantic which were full of artworks and films and music that we'd made for no-one to listen to. We had so many things in common. It was at a time that if you spent a lot of time making art and dressing up you got beaten down for being pretentious. Everything was about being down to earth. And we both just felt this relief when we met each other."
M83
For most of us, our teenage years were an awkward time full of embarrassing moments we'd rather forget. For M83's chief star-gazer Anthony Gonzalez, however, his adolescence turned out to be the most important period of his life, one he looks back upon with great affection. Now, he's made it the defining theme of his enchanting new album, Saturdays=Youth. The idea of youth - wasted, gilded or otherwise - has featured prominently in M83's music. From early fumblings like "At The Party" on 2001's self-titled debut to the bliss-fuzz of "Teen Angst" from 2005's breakthrough album Before The Dawn Heals Us, the French producer's dramatic space-rock tends to evoke the innocence and wonder of this hormonally charged time. But Saturdays=Youth is his most explicit celebration yet of how it feels to be dazed, confused and 15 years old.
THE DØ
Named after the note-scale Do (as in the Do-Rei-Mi), this new music sensation The Do is definitely bound to set V Festival audience's hearts on fire. The duo behind the band, are almost as exotic as their musical style and lyrics. Made up of native Finnish Olivia B. Merilahti and multi-instrumentalist, part Tunisian-English-French Dan Levy, The Do have been mighty busy teasing fans with their debut album 'A Mouthful' (which went straight to number 1 in France) and energetic live shows. With their unique ability to meld genres, The Do's live show will no doubt captivate audiences with their eclectic avant-guarde noise.
LOUIS XIV
Named after the French King, Louis XIV is a quartet hailing from San Diego, California. Formed in 2003, the bands irresistible riffs and existentialist punk lyrics have been puncturing audiences with their raw sounds ever since. NME were infamously quoted as saying, that the bands sounds reflected "music to flunk rehab to", while Rolling Stone and MTV named them as one of its top 10 bands to watch. The band is Infamous for writing the song titles before the songs. With a loyal live following, Louis XIV is set to whip V Festival audiences into a frenzy, so get ready to bust on out to a set list fit for a king.
JENNY LEWIS
Jenny Lewis follows up from her internationally acclaimed 2006 album Rabbit Fur Coat with her new solo album Acid Tongue. The all analogue, no Pro-Tools sessions were all part of a shared aesthetic between Lewis, her producers and her musician collaborators, working quickly and tracking her vocals entirely live and without embellishment. Recorded at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California in just 3 weeks, the album's tracks, disparate as they are, share a sparkling vitality; Lewis's voice has never sounded so expressive and the narratives have never been so hard-hitting and acerbic.
JACKSON JACKSON
Harry Angus (The Cat Empire) and Jan Skubiszeweski (hip hop producer and film composer) met in 2002, when Jan was Assistant Engineer on one of Harry's records. After four years of individually honing their talents and carving names for themselves in music, they decided to work together, and Jackson Jackson was born. On stage, Jackson Jackson feature some of the finest musicians in the country. With their rhythm section and a mini-choir known as the JACKSON JACKSON FIVE, Angus and Skubiszeweski have created a formidable live experience. Each member of the JACKSON JACKSON band is an accomplished solo artist in their own right. Together, they carve up dance floors across the country.
HOWLING BELLS
If you think it's been a long time since you've heard from Howling Bells - since the cinematic majesty of that self-titled debut back in May 2006 - then you should try being in the band. Bands as creatively prolific as this do not adjust well to sitting around for months at a time. "We're an industrious lot. We never stop thinking and being inspired," says singer Juanita Stein. "If it were up to us, we'd put out this record tomorrow and then start recording another straight away".
TAME IMPALA
According to the dictionary an impala is "an African antelope with long curved horns that makes spectacular leaps when alarmed" – but watchout when you have a tame one, they make one hell of a musical explosion. Perth-based trio Tame Impala, has fans across the great divide panting to their rolling, fuzz coated harmonious steam train grooves. Citing influences from Nazz to Crosby Stills and Nash, this barefoot collective have been meandering their way across the great musical landscape with their untame sound supporting acts such as You am I and The Black Keys. So get ready to take off your shirt, burn your bra’s and get high on the kaleidoscopic sounds of the beast they call the Tame Impala.
WOLF & CUB
Hailing from the City of Churches (Adelaide), Wolf & Cub have been making their own psychedelic musical pilgrimage since they formed in 2002. Comprising of a guitarist, bassist and two drummers/percussionists, this quartet have dawned the stages with bands such as TV on the Radio, Primal Scream, The Killers and Queens of the Stone Age. Known for their feverish live shows, howling guitar and punctured lyrics, Wolf & Cub will leave you feeling like a deer in headlights.
CHILDREN COLLIDE
In 2005 Children Collide released We Three, Brave And True, a six-track EP that didn't so much announce the group's arrival as kick the door down, featuring the brilliant We Are Amphibious, the little b-side that could - and did, turning, reinvigorated, into the a-side of 2006's equally impressive Glass Mountain Liars EP. Now it's 2008 and the band is pleased to present their debut long player, The Long Now. This is a record that crackles with smarts and buzzes along with the undeniable sense of a band that knows where it's going, a band that sees your lazy references and questionable stylistic decisions and raises them - into another stratosphere. It's a record with its eye on the future and its feet in the present and its imagination crossing astral planes throughout it all. The Long Now starts now.
THE TEMPER TRAP
Melbourne based 4-piece band, The Temper Trap have been carving their way into our music consciousness ever since their self- titled debut was unveiled in 2006. Since then, these lads have been traversing their way across the globe with their eclectic sound in tow. The entrancing voice of lead singer Dougy, combined with the atmospheric grooves of the band (Jonny, Lorenzo, and Toby), The Temper Trap will no doubt indulge V Festival punters with their much anticipated performance.
CANYONS
When you have the combination of two producers fusing together the fury of live instruments, interwoven with analogues synth percussions and tape delays, it’s no wonder the Canyons have artists banging down their doors to remix their work. Canyons is notoriously made up of DJs Leo Frostwave and Fred Cherry, who together have mastercrafted the art of genre amalgamation. Their V Festival debut will no doubt see V festival audiences gyrating to their impulsive sounds.
So hey, here we are. Three years down the track from the inaugural V Festival in Australia and on the brink of V Festival 2009. The date is hooning towards us and we couldn't be more psyched!
