With their 1978 eponymous debut, Van Halen simultaneously rewrote the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equaled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a metal singer to near-performance art standards. Roth had a flair for showmanship that was derived as much from lounge performers and vaudeville as it was from Robert Plant. Together, along with the rock-solid rhythm section of drummer Alex Van Halen, and bassist Michael Anthony, they made Van Halen into the most popular American rock & roll band of the late '70s and early '80s. And in the process set the template for hard rock and heavy metal for the '80s and beyond.
In 1984, with the release of their 6th studio album "1984", and it's super-charged keyboard driven single "Jump", you couldn't go anywhere in the free world and not hear the Mighty Van Halen. Radio stations across the nation, and even upstart channel MTV, had the song in constant rotation. In short, Van Halen RULED!! During that time, 2 young brothers from New Jersey, Patrick and PJ Murray, had just begun playing guitar and drums respectively. 25 years later, the brothers decided it was time to pay tribute to the band they grew up loving....
Fast forward...April, 2009 - Orlando, Florida...
The Murray brothers hook up with David Lee Roth clone (and local Orlando Channel 9 News hero!) Steve Barrett, and former RusHour (Rush Tribute band!!) bassist/vocalist/keyboardist Chad Kulscar, and begin rehearsing all of their classic Van Halen favorites..."Unchained"..."Hot For Teacher"..."Panama"..."Little Guitars"..."Ice Cream Man"..."I'm the One" The list goes on and on!!!! "The idea here is to give people all the sights, sounds, and the intense energy of a classic Van Halen show!!" states PJ. "Unless you were alive during that time, you really missed out on what Van Halen was all about. They were larger than life. Musically and visually! Our goal is to re-create that whole experience".
With shows looming on the horizon, the 1984 "experience" is something you definitely will NOT want to miss!!
