The Marc Jacobs stam quaked the runways last year and is still considered the “IT” bag of the season. Fashionistas from Mary to J-Lo have been seen chain slinging the quilted neo classic.

Attention budget fashionistas—all the thrift shop browsing, coupon clipping, outlet VIPs. We’re not into promoting Chinatown designer imitations but we do appreciate affordable pieces “inspired” by high fashion that don’t claim to be anything they’re not. Check out these cute steals we hunted down:
About me:
A magazine of firsts — first brand new car, first proper credit card,
first time falling truly in love, first mortgage or first time in an
apartment without a roommate, first time buying a handbag for more
than two hundred dollars, first significant promotion, first time
traveling alone, first time entertaining without help from parents,
first time making her own decisions about everything — VIXEN speaks to
the confidence and individuality of young women without appealing to
insecurities. VIXEN embodies all standards of beauty. VIXEN is the
life and style guide for the most diverse, tech-wise, brand-savvy
generation in history.
Manhattan’s Canal Room is a hurricane of limbs, locks, and love. Tonight’s Afropunk Liberation Sessions is one of the sickest shows I’ve been to in a long time.
Stretched lobes, tapered jeans and Mohawks are about as common as fatigues and Addidas these days. But years ago, before the 80’s were considered cool again, the punk kids were restricted to the city’s lower east side. Sporting a skull or anarchist symbol doesn’t have the same defiant punch that it used to.
James Spooner is the 30-year-old filmographer and creator of the documentary that spawned the Afropunk movement but tonight, he’s posted in the dj booth rotating records. He’s content dusting off classic rock jams that would make Grace Jones proud.
The crowd—mostly die-hard fans and band groupies—goes frenetic when G.A.M.E. Rebellion hits the stage. Old friends greet one another with friendly collisions. Arms pinwheel and legs flail. A guy with a blond tuft of hair, stands in front of my girls and me like a guardrail. He’s obviously an experienced mosher and wants to make sure the only black eyes we leave with are the shadow-lined ones we walked in batting. The crowd surges as James’ gorgeous fiancé leaps offstage and surfs over our outstretched arms.

Kelis gave us a case of déjà vu at Heatherette’s Spring 2007 Olympus Fashion Week showing. She rocked the runway 80’s style – bright pink tutu, fingerless leopard-print glove, wristful of bangles. She knows how to work the look by inspiring nostalgia without looking like she’s playing dress up.
