began with an old valve tape machine. The machine was fitted with
echo heads and became an echo machine. The buttons fell off and it became unusable.
It was fortunate that an Akai 4000ds reel to reel tape machine appeared in the paper
and was bought for £65. That machine is still in the VF studio today.
It allowed us to multi-track and learn about producing.
The first early experiments produced a clutch of tunes that are still in our
tape vaults - really the broom cupboard but the brooms have been relocated
elsewhere.
Fast forward to 1994 and Arkadia was released for the first time to the waiting
world. Clearly they were waiting for something else. Promotion wasn't great
and neither was marketing but the record company were a shoestring operation
and the the string was fraying.
Now in 2007 there are plans to release a re-mastered Arkadia on the Yew Tree
Records label. At last Arkadia will reach a wider audience or
whatever shape they are - we don't mind.
