Given lines to read that are not our own, half of them cut before opening night, most of us live Thoreau's lives of quiet desperation. Some of us try to raise our voices, only to be drowned out by witless drunken heckles from the crowd.
And some of us have amplifiers. Loud ones.
Some of us never quite recovered from that intoxicating rush we got the first time we heard Little Richard speaking in tongues, or Hendrix tearing into that infernal tritone, or The Clash demanding a riot of their own. Some of us find meagre relief in dank practice spaces and stale backrooms, moments of clarity amid the squeal of a too-loud half-stack, and the reverb-drip of a club PA.
Let's face the music and dance...
'...Vicious Cabaret have as much swagger and snarl as any rock band can possibly muster...' Sandman
'...Brooding rock bastards with deliciously filthy bass lines and plenty of attitude...' Groovestealer
'...Blatant in their thievery, creative in their use of the goods and genuinely vicious in the way that they slash it out...' Unpeeled
'...Short, sharp & slightly sinister tasting, Vicious Cabaret have the lyrical courage to match their musical conviction...' Trakmarx

As of 2008 the cabaret has closed its doors... however, you may still be able to get a drink at a disreputable establishment down the street - Exit Lounge ...

I interviewed renowned photographer Bob Gruen last year. He talks about the early days when he was taking pictures of Ike and Tina Turner, John Lennon, the New York Dolls, the Sex Pistols and the Clash. Check it out!

THE RETURN OF THE BAT
Specimen will bring their special brand of glam mayhem, The Batcave to London again.
After last year’s wildly-successful 25th anniversary Batcave event, The Batcave returns to its original spawning ground of London’s West End on Sunday July 19 for another night of blasphemy, lechery and blood.
Specimen (Fresh from a fantastic show at Leipzig’s Waves Gotik festival), the original Batcave instigators will headline the lurid frolics at the Embassy Club, (29 Old Burlington St, London W1S3AP) Also on the bill are original Batcavers Sexbeat, with DJs Hamish and Cavey Nick, cavorting from decks to decadence with the usual brutal, trouser-dropping surprises & suitably confronting & barbaric entertainment.
The 2009 Batcave will feature installations from exciting new artists of the ‘Dark London Underground’ and visuals from the upcoming ‘Welcome To The Batcave’ book, along with this year’s bitcrushed message from the creature in the Batcave Pram. All set in a spooky Bladerunner environment!
So dress to kill … prepare for a thrill & Expect the unexpected!
The Batcave will be open from 10pm till 3am. Tickets £15 available from www.ticketweb.co.uk and Resurrection Records.
