In summer 1992, Jeffrey Galea (guitars), Marvin Zammit (guitars), Dino Mifsud Lepre (Drums) and Rex (Bass & Vox) started experimenting with Death and Doom metal genres. With time a unique sound was developed, having a mixture of clean and growling vocals, heavy down-tuned guitars and a much more melodic yet depressive style.
Debut gig in 1994 (supporting Oblique Visions on the launch of their CD) was a success and claimed recognition for the band in the local underground scene. Soon after, Jeff left the band and was replaced by Shawn Abela. The song entitled “Lotions and Potions – Toke 1” (composed when Jeff was still in the band) was included in “The Core of Creation”, a local compilation released by Storm Records. This song was very well acclaimed especially for its originality although it did not reflect the style back then. The launch of this compilation in 1996 was the second and last gig of the band.
Ross Elidge replaced Shawn on guitars and the new material was very experimental in nature and much more on the ‘groovy’ and up-tempo side. After almost a year, although the band did not officially split up, Dino and Rex kept Victims of Creation alive with sporadic jamming together with Robert Agius (ex-Archaean Harmony). In the mean time both Rex and Dino continued gigging regularly in various projects and other bands. AJ Burd (ex-Obscuritas Aeternus, ex-Cyberia) with whom Rex and Dino also play in Lithomancy, shared the same passion for the gloomy and depressive side of music and ventured together in the birth of a new project named Tree. Some interesting material was composed but unfortunately after some time AJ had to leave the Island. In the meantime Rex and Dino found in Daniel Bartolo (ex-Earth, ex-Kontroll, DareDevil) the perfect element to form another new project called Griffin Device which is more on the Sabbathy/Stoner/Sludge side. Unfortunately, Daniel had to leave the Island as well.
Due to all these line-up changes and unlucky circumstances, Victims of Creation could never rise back from the ashes, until AJ surprisingly returned back to Malta, and both the material from the “Tree” project together with some of the material from the old Victims of Creation era was revived. Some time after, Daniel also returned to Malta and apart from continuing the Griffin Device project, he was also recruited as the second guitarist of Victims of Creation. With this present line-up, new material is being composed.
Rex also plays with Lithomancy, Griffin Device, Xtruppaw, Norm Rejection and Cumshaft. Ex-bands include NV, Corkskrew, Filletti & Friends and Jaipur.
Dino also plays with Lithomancy, Griffin Device, Xtruppaw, Deluge of Sorrow, The I SKAndal and Wound.
AJ also plays with Lithomancy. Ex-bands include Obscuritas Aeternus and Cyberia.
Daniel also plays with Griffin Device and DareDevil. Ex-bands include, The Finks, The Swans of Avon, The Fakes, MOL 3, The Kelly Affair, DestroyOBoy, Just in Case and Steel Crusader all of which were based in Australia.
The Malta Doom Metal Fest provided an impetus for a long awaited comeback after thirteen years without a live performance.
