1. Tell us about yourself... When and where were you born? First exposure to music that you could appreciate.
I was born in Bucharest, Romania on May 2nd 1985, but my family and I moved to Canada in 1994 just before my 9th birthday. My father has always been into music. Everytime I walk into his office in the basement I just get lost in the amount of equipment and LPs he has. He's got everything from Vintage Tube Amplifiers to massive old Technics loudspeakers, along with i'd say (just to be safe), well over 1000 LPs of classic rock, blues, and jazz! So I'd definately have to say that my music inspiration came from my father.
2. How did you get involved in producing/DJing?
I always had a passion for music. Producing originally started back in grade 9 when my friend gave me a CD with a pirated copy of Fruity Loops 3! For a year or two I just played around, making completely awful "songs". For a few years I lost interest in "producing" and focused more on DJing. In 2004 I purchased Fruity Loops 5 and started taking production a little more serious.
3. Who are some of your influences?
Musically, I'd have to say some of my biggest influences include BT, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Deadmau5, Ozgur Can.
4. What is in your Ipod/CD player right now?
I haven't touched my Ipod ever since my Itrip broke about a year ago. I really don't have much time to listen to it other than when I'm in the car. As for the CD player, I usually just burn 1-2 new tracks that I'm working on onto a CD just so I can listen to them on different sound sources! At the moment I've got The White EP along with 1 other new track in my CD player.
5. What was the first club track you ever bought?
"Snap - Rhythm is a Dancer" on Vinyl. It was on sale for $4.99 on eBay, how could I say no?
6. How would you describe your style?
A fusion of everything... I really don't know, I try not to stick to one formula.
7. Tell us about your studio? What equipment do you use?
A powerful computer which will likely be obsolete in a matter of months, along with an MBox 2 soundcard, and Alesis M1 Active 620 Monitors. Oh, and an M-Audio Midi Keyboard.
8. Most people have no concept of the amount of time and effort that is spent in a recording studio. Can you describe the creative process for you in producing or remixing a track?
In all honesty, the music writes itself. I always have one or two specific ideas in mind, work on those, and from there just see where everything else goes.
9. What are some projects you are working on right now?
I'm always working on new tracks, so that definitely keeps me fairly busy, but apart from that I'm working on a film score for an independant feature lenght film entitled "Drink Tea Outside".
10. Any supportive words for a new producer/DJ?
Don't give up. It will take years of hard work and dedication. Finish everything you start.
