So I tried to post a cover of the song Heart of the Matter to Facebook today. Within ten minutes Don Henley's publishing company Cass County music took my video down. A cover is supposed to be a compliment to an artist apparently not to Mr. Henley. You are all money grubbing pigs. How you sleep at night is beyond myself. I'm a 24 year fan trying to spread your music and all I'm giving is legal mumbo jumbo about how I can't do that. I'm sure you don't read these posts as you are too busy flying to play venues where you deliver the same statuesque performances your fans have expected. Mr. Henley, Mr. Frey, and Walsh you should be ashamed of yourselves. As I recall most of your work is written by two men, JJ Cale and Jackson Browne however a simple bar piano player like myself is unable to post my mediocre covers or your songs to youtube. Fuck your contracts with myspace. Music isn't a contract, it's an emotion, a feeling, a gift. You have all received a gift from god that you are able to craft such brilliant songs. In doing so however you have become Stalin like dictators of how these songs can be used. The people made these songs a hit. If a hit song is written and nobody hears it, is it still a hit? I think not. You are the establishment Mr. Henley and Mr. Frey. You are everything that is evil and corrupt in this business. Music is a gift. You were blessed enough to have been given the talent to write masterful songs. Let the world share them. After all how much more money can be made? The one thing that's more important than money is joy. You deliver joy at an astronomical concert ticket price and go home every night and sleep well knowing that. The Eagles no matter how many records are sold will be a band time forgets. Look at Guns N Roses. Great music, great stage charisma, but at what cost? To be a joke and thief to your peers. Like the great Bob Dylan says "I wish for just one moment you could stand inside my shoes and for one moment I could be you. Then you'd know what a drag it is to see you." Keep pleasing your yuppie fans and collecting your money. When it comes to your young fans there's no chance of you being remembered. How could someone 24 years of age afford a ticket price as astronomical as yours. Time will forget you. Of course you'll be in record books but you will be lost in the hearts of future generations because of your downright stinginess. Music is keeps the heart going. Money keeps the bank account full? Isn't your bank account full enough? Give something back to your fans you selfish fuckin pigs.
