First of all, we are not really 59 years old.
The Vienna Songwriting Association is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2004 in order to support and promote Songwriting, its music and its artists.
For our MySpace profile we chose the birthday of Nick Drake, because he and his music hold a special place for us: "Fruit Tree – A Tribute to Nick Drake" in November 2004 marked the very first event arranged by the VSA.
We are a group of musicians, journalists and music lovers who organize workshops, seminars and symposia and other events covering the subject of "songwriting" and its manifold meanings and appearances.
In April 2005 we started a monthly event called "VSA presents..." that takes place every first Thursday of the month at the Gasthaus Vorstadt in Vienna.
It is a showcase for young Austrian musicians as well as international artists we invite to come to Vienna and play their music; and for the interested music lovers to meet likeminded people, listen, discuss, listen some more.
Blue Bird Convention:
Each November we invite national and international artists to play concerts at two different locations in Vienna (Gasthaus Vorstadt and the legendary jazz club Porgy&Bess. In addition, we always start with a symposium hosted by derStandard.
