Vikas Tripathi is a talented tabla player, who has a good comprehension of original Indian classical music. He is able to transport us to different places through his musical expression. His rhythms have a sort of magnetism that connects one with the most ancient sounds as well as modern musical trends. Vikas Tripathi is an eclectic and innovative artist who enjoys performing Indian classical music and is open to creation or accompaniment of any musical style that he is interested in including the harmony of Indian percussion rhythms. Vikas has performed in a number of prestigious stages in India and abroad. He was invited to give a performance on the national Indian channel Zee TV, 7News. In Japan, he participated in several well known TV channels and also performed at the National Centre for Arts in Mexico DC, at the fourth Arte Sonoro Ex-Teresa Arte Actual festival. When in Portugal, he performed in the town of Guimaraes on the Portuguese national day, accompanied by the guitarist Manuel Oliveira. During 2008, he performed at the MITEU festival at the auditorium in Orense. This same performance (played with the group OM_OFF) was awarded the second prize at the 2008 Culturas competition under intercultural dialogue, organized by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. He has been running his own music school in Benares since 1997, where he taught tabla to more than 1500 students from all around the world. This school is cited by several international music school guides. During his visit to the many places that he was invited to perform, amongst which are Japan, Mexico, Spain and Portugal, he was able to fuse the Indian style with other musical styles. His contact with western culture has helped him to compose rhythms to accompany jazz, latin jazz, flamenco, pop, celtic, folk, electronic types of music, something that he has studied well and has contributed to enrich his own personality. Mikans inception began in a little apartment in Yugawara, Japan. Its founding member, Matt Baker, originally from the UK, has been an avid writer of ambient music for many years.
