About me: vilaine fille is the nom de blague of New York-based writer and translator Marion Lignana Rosenberg.
Marion's essay "Re-visioning Callas" won a Newswomen's Club of New York Front Page Award. She wrote the entry on Maria Callas for Notable American Women: Completing the Twentieth Century (Harvard University Press).
An acclaimed broadcaster and journalist, Marion has contributed features, reviews, and essays about the arts to Newsday, Time Out New York, Salon.com, The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Magazine, Opera News, and Playbill. She has offered commentary on WNYC's "Soundcheck" and produced and hosted programs on WHRB in Cambridge, MA. Her work has appeared in the programs and season books of the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, and other companies in the United States and Europe. She also writes in Italian for America Oggi and Oggi 7.
Blogosphere: Best of Blogs (Pearson) and the San Jose Mercury News, among others, have hailed Marion's blog, vilaine fille, as one of the Web's finest opera and classical music destinations.
Marion has led workshops on classical music criticism under the auspices of the National Endowment for the Arts and Columbia University. In an earlier life, she wrote and edited market-leading Italian- and French-language instructional materials in a variety of media (print, video, audio, CD-ROM, etc.).
A certified translator of both Italian and French, Marion exulted, exults, and ever will exult that gli Azzurri defeated les Bleus to win the 2006 FIFA World Cup. (This followed twenty-four years of agony and humiliation, which now seem but a dream…)
In addition to being an orfanella callasiana, Marion is fond of vintage and contemporary Italian and French pop: Luigi Tenco, Dalida, Françoise Hardy, Georges Brassens, Jacques Dutronc, Lucio Battisti, Gianmaria Testa, Ivano Fossati, Carla Bruni…
While devoted to Santa Rufola, Marion worships Serge Gainsbourg as her patron saint. In the secret universe (the one that makes sense), she is the love-child of Dalida and il Maestro, Paolo Conte.
Who I'd like to meet: Fellow writers, musicians, other fans of the music I love, italiani (soprattutto altri piemontesi), grenouilles (allez, on ne parlera pas de foot…). And, in my dreams, Roberto Donadoni.

Dear vilaine fille,
I have enjoyed your blog for a long time now!!! Lovely to see you on MySpace (I am also a recent convert). MySpace kind of grows on you. The best thing about it is that WHRBies out there find each other, people born in Brooklyn meet other people who live in or near Brooklyn, composers who write cantorial music and appreciators of cantorial music cross paths, people who don't know what others' comments mean go to the trouble to investigate, etc etc. Please keep on doing your thing so well with your writing(s).
Greetings from a big fan in Holland
