Named "Best New Vermont Band" by the 2010 Seven Daises Awards
-Seven Days
The word “villanelle” is derived from a 15th-century Italian term that loosely translates to “rural ballad.” Also, any lit major will tell you that it’s a very specific, relatively obscure style of French poetry.
In Burlington, Villanelles has come to take on a new but oddly appropriate meaning: [vil-uh-nels] n. a kick-ass local indie rock band, notable for dynamic arrangements and thought-provoking lyricism laced with vividly poetic imagery.
-Seven Days
"If the windows are steamed up and there is an overflow of sweaty 20 somethings catching their breath at the end of a cigarette, then it’s generally the Villanelles. And if its not, they’ll be on within the hour.
The Villanelles have in a short time become a Burlington staple, and a strong one at that. If you haven’t been out in the last year, maybe something needs to change, eh?"
-AngioPlasty Media
"A band growing parallel with the returning rock scene, Villanelles will stick a flower in your gun, but still bring the bang."
- The Deli Magazine Thu, 5 Mar 2009
"when I watch them I feel like it’s story time…that I can dance to."
- The Deli Magazine Wed, 25 Feb 2009
"This was a chance discovery via a poetic friend, and it's wonderful... a lovely retro feel"
