DA Funk : dirty house and experimental techniques, with a fun funky edge
JaM! : Hard hitting hard trance, hard funk
We are 2 DJ’s Richard Cupid and Jamie Greenway aka qpid! and JaM!
In 2002 Jam started DJ’ing and in 2003 the funk followed, starting with general house and classic bounce we progressed as did the technology that DJ’s could use.
After spending many hours listening to our favourite DJ’s trying to hear different ways in which to mix an compile sets we have got to this stage.
With 2 website and new mixes every month we are going strong!
We have played in several club in Barrow in Furness, but if you have been here you will know it is not very cultured and every club has the same type of music (comercial funky house) as we play dirtier an harder music. it is hard to get started around here but we know there is a market for it!

Well, into the 5th Year and what a daily grind it has been. We have played hardcore to teenagers and hard dance to the aged! All in all, the past 5 years were an extreme cultivation for us in all aspects of the field.
Our hometown, Barrow-in-Furness, lacks in musical culture and has infrequently provided the people and the music with a place to thrive, endlessly trying to promote possible changes the town requires, we have heard many a great excuse! Successfully dropping our genres on a few dance floors we have shown that people groove to the sounds but due to the owner selling four bottles less than last week, the nights “proved unsuccessful”, yeah, ok.
From past to present we have encountered some characters, some to remember and some to forget, mainly from our recent residency. These encounters have taught us some valuable lessons, for the good and the worse; it was within that building we were told promotion was pointless, (which is great when you have just sent five thousand flyers for print) our mixes were tight, our tunes were tasty, nights were cosmic and the key moments of genre changes were what the crowd of mixed people wanted.
Looking into past experiences and previous venues and the way we have adapted to the change we are unsure why Barrow has no larger night clubs for the people that want the music and for the DJs in the town. I once managed to fill a floor of rock and alternative music fans with some hard dance, turned a quiet birthday bash into a bounce fest, together we dropped hardcore to a bunch of teenagers who apparently liked the black eyed peas and did a DJ set in a record shop after nipping in to purchase some new vinyl! If that isn’t adaptation…..
With a confident attitude to it all we have approached many of the town’s club management with successful first impressions, but when asked what equipment we use we seem to receive unintelligible looks of of confusion and fear. Could this be due to the fact that we are Vinylsaurs (n. DJs who cannot kick their addiction to the twelve inch record format) and club owners deem it contemporary to have an apple mac in the booth?
