SUIT AND TIE LAND: This is a song that Ciaran wrote. He did the lyrics, melody, and chord progression. Musically, it is a simple song--pretty basic 12-bar blues progression (give or take a few bars), but he gave it this fresh, funky beat that really gets you movin. We went with a nice sharp distortion on the guitars to get a raunchy blues sound, as well as a nice crunchy, meaty sound for the faster metal section. This song is about a bum telling a yuppie business person what its like to be on the streets and why they are there. Its also expresses the fear that this world is being overrun by crazy sad CEO zombies making it......a Suit and Tie Land. How many suits do you own?
STRANGER: James (bass player and newest addition to the band) wrote the music for this one, showcasing some of his amazing full frontal funky ass bass playin. This guy can BUST it out, I'm tellin you! David and Ben on guitars combine a wah-full funk beat with a heavy distortion to get that funk and metal combo goin, while Ciaran belts out his mindblowing lyrics in one of his best songs written. His singing builds to such a frenetic intensity leading into a climactic chorus, "I guess its DO or its DIE!" that we can't help but just go crazy jammin. His lyrics sing about the life of a musician--someone who wants to connect with another soul, the universe, their true love--someone who wants to feel alive through fearing, fighting, lusting, loving, longing, leaving, coming...
LOCK AND LOAD: This song is pretty much a full colaboration, although it was Dave who introduced the initial chord progression and catchy strumming pattern. Ben does an incredible job with his riffs really making this song come alive and dance before your very eyes. Jon's solid, driving beats and rapid fire drum rolls hold everything together in a high energy package of emotion detonated by Ciaran's lyrics full of insightful wisdom and heart wrenching irony.
FISH: This is actually Fish In A Barrel, but this song has been taken to a "whole nuvah levol" so now we just call it Fish. The guys think of this song like the Arizona desert--perfect for testing our latest nuclear bombs. Who knows what is gonna happen whenever we play this song, our one time anthem, other than its going to be more intense than ever before. Fun!
