Vince started his venture into music as a percussionist. He played in many bands throughout the 60’s and early 70’s playing everything from rock and roll and country to jazz. During this time he also became interested the instruments of the other band members he worked with and started teaching himself how to play guitar and bass. Later on he picked up banjo and mandolin. He is the first to admit that guitar is now his primary instrument, however he enjoys the subtle accents the other instruments can add to music. Whenever he gets a chance, he loves to just jam with other musicians in an effort to learn more and get that rare chance to perform with others.
During the early 80’s his music took a very different turn. Playing in bands had lost its attraction and the personalities and changing lives of the other band members became too difficult to schedule around so he broke out on his own. He became a member of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild and began performing at every open mic venue he could find. Watching and listing to local singer song writers like Bruce Morrison, Phil Miller, Denise Finley and others, he realized there was much more to playing music than just repeating what was on the radio.
Song writing did not come easy at first but it did come and this new creative outlet was quickly embraced. In the early 90’s Vince got around to making his first recording
called “Take a Journey”. Soon after he was often a feature performer at many of the areas folk music stages like the Cubby Hole Coffee House, the Shultsville Music Hall and others.
Throughout the years Vince has been a feature at the Town Crier Café and has opened for performers such as Patrick Ball and Odetta. He continues to haunt the stages in the area and has been a feature on some local radio stations like WVKR and whenever possible plays at some of the local festivals and street fairs. I am sure you will agree that his use of alternate and standard tunings accompanied by his soothing clear voice makes for an enjoyable evening of music.
