SLC, Utah, home of the greatest snow on earth, Mormon evolution and possibly the heaviest underground metal scenes to plague the face of the earth. With constant practice and dedication VINIA, a local band compiled of intellect and indulgence, has been rocking the stage for a combined musical knowledge of over 50 years. It is hard to believe when the majority of the band has barely reached the drinking age of 21. Although the band is young comparatively to the rest of the scene in Salt Lake City and throughout the US, this adolescent mindset is reflected through the explosive energy seen when tearing up the stage at any venue big or small and not through a lack of professionalism by any member. These guys know how to get a crowd moving regardless of the atmosphere.
It came together when Tyson, following in the footsteps of his father, started playing drums just minutes out of the womb. His obsessions lead him to acquire a drum set of his own. During this time Collin, lead/rhythm guitarist, moved in with Tyson because their parents decided to marry. Tyson’s love of the drums and rock n roll helped lead Collin to desire the same dream. Garren, bass enthusiast, soon came into the mix because of his father’s musical relationship with Tyson’s. After setting down their cardboard instruments for a taste of the real thing there has been no turning back. In the winter of 99’/00’ Tyson and Collin moved into a new neighborhood in the city of West Jordan. They started hanging out with Nick, the next door neighbor, who took an interest in the dream that they had which was to become the next Metallica, Pantera or ACDC. Shortly after he received a guitar for his birthday in Dec. 99’ and joined the band the same day.
Ruben, vox, recently joined the band in the spring of 07’ but has been a close friend for over five years. Performing in bands such as Unsound Mind and Sindolor for over 7 years has given this performer a step forward in not only realizing but attaining the dream of millions of people around the world. This front man can churn the waters of the calmest sea in the blink of an eye turning a crowd into a raging army without a second of hesitation. Bringing in a vocalist with the power to move mountains has brought VINIA the necessary tools to dominate any stage they set foot on.
They have had the honor to play on countless stages across the west coast performing with numerous big named bands such as Byzintine, Machine Head, and 40 Below Summer to name a few. In the summer of 02’ they traveled to Las Vegas for the New York Music Festival performing at the Palms Hotel/Casino in which Electra Records approached VINIA later traveling to SLC to see them in concert in their home town. In the summer of 04’ they traveled to LA on a whim to try out for the Ozzfest competition. Collin and Garren could not participate due to age restrictions but the rest still went on achieving a rank in the top 20 of more than 2,000 bands from the US entire west coast. Carrying on the legend of rock is no easy task considering those who are vigorously trying right now. This is time for those to rise who have the know how and the elbow grease to make legends happen and VINIA has patiently been developing to succeed. Dedication is the key.
