It’s 2007 and nearly 25 years have passed since the release of the original and first ‘Mastercuts’ album. A genre defining compilation series compiled with absolute love and dedication, it is still highly regarded by its numerous fans the world over.
It’s with this same ethos that Seamless Recordings have called upon the creator and original compiler of that series Ian Dewhirst, to work his magic once again. A DJ since 1971 and with a music business career spanning nearly thirty years, Ian has been responsible not only for the Mastercuts series, but also for the Simply Vinyl 12” releases, re-launching the Salsoul catalogue in the UK through the Suss’d label, the ‘Original Selection’ series for Demon as well as winning the C.A.D. award for the Most Creative Corporate Campaign whilst working at Warner.
In a world where the Shuffle button reigns supreme, it’s compilation series such as ‘Vintage Grooves’ that manage to cut through the digital overload of the last few years, and improve on an already near-perfect idea. A chance to smell, hold in your hand and read through the extensive track by track notes a product lovingly compiled by one of the foremost experts in the field. With absolutely no filler tracks and using only 12” full version original mixes, ‘Vintage Grooves’ kickstarts the series with ‘Old School Hip Hop Vol. 1’ with ‘70’s Funk’, ‘Balearic’ and ‘Disco’ to come later in the year.
