Signed Bands:
Lake Inferior
They met wearing Pokemon costumes outside the WXYC 80’s Dance Party, and it was love at first sight. Over the course of the next several months, they started sharing guitar riffs, vocal melodies, and an apartment living room. Perhaps it was Nasir Abbas’ Chippendale costume at a Dressed to Get Screwed Party or maybe it was Derek Torres’ “Crust-tache,” but somehow Lake Inferior was able to win the hearts and minds of the Chapel Hill/Carrboro community and ultimately found itself as the flagship band for UNC-Chapel Hill’s student record label Vinyl Records. A steady gig as the Saint Anthony’s Hall house band turned into opening slots for Deerhunter, Times New Viking, the Rosebuds, and Annuals, and the sold out, debut Lake Inferior EP has led to demand for a new 7” coming out in late November 2009.
Set on a foundation of danceable polyrhythms alluding to Eno-era Talking Heads, Lake Inferior envelops itself in thick electric guitars and synthesizers while still allowing catchy pop melodies to seep through; the newly added Roland sampler anchors the band in the crosshairs of the new wave of electronic rock music.

Lafcadio Shot Back
Formed in 2008 by UNC students living in Carrboro, NC, Lafcadio Shot Back is an alt-country four-piece that is named for a Shel Silverstein book. Utilizing alternate tunings, band leaders Liz Ross (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Ryan Dowdy (lead guitar, backup vocals) combine their respective influences of Janis-Joplin's blues-rock and Nick Drake's British Isles folk with the help of Stevie Clark Howell (percussion) and Eric Notarnicola (bass guitar).
Known for their stage shows, LSB released their first album, The Lafcadio EP, with Vinyl Records in January 2009. Lafcadio Shot Back has already shown the ability to exponentially grow in popularity over a short period of time, and looks to continue the trend on the strength of their first release.
