Violence-Free Science's Blurbs |
About me:
Sussex University [Brighton, UK] have been exposed testing on animals for needless and unnecessary tests; from mice to rabbits, alcohol experiments to stress procedures, animals are suffering and being killed right here on our campus -- despite a USSU motion stating such experiments shouldn’t even be taking place.
The University were originally exposed in an article published on 5th February which circulated for a week in the university paper [click here to see it] . The article, which claimed the university are making rats addicted to alcohol and electrocuting them, inducing heat shock in rabbits, experimenting on the ears of guinea pigs, and injecting baby mice with ethanol (to name but a few experiments) was met with an extremely aggressive reaction from the University, who threatened to sue its own Student Union. Despite complete denial by the University, the article can in fact be fully referenced to demonstrate full truth in every claim made.
All accusations made to the University regarding their experiments have drawn from publicly available research papers, published by Sussex University themselves and conducted here on our campus. However, the university are continuing to deny all allegations and are refusing to co-operate on any level, including providing documentation detailing a simple commitment to alternative testing methods.
WHAT WE ARE ASKING FROM THE UNIVERSITY
In order to achieve the above aims, we are asking for the following:
1. Full and complete transparency of animal experiments being carried out;
2. Documents detailing commitment to alternatives to be supplied to concerned groups;
3. Students should be given access to laboratory testing facilities and Animal House for an inspection of the animals, housing and conditions.
OUR CAMPAIGN --
We are currently communicating with university officials to examine and discuss alternative methods to animal experiments. However, they are now refusing to co-operate with our above conditions until allegations made against them are silenced. We are going to peacefully lobby through petitions, leaflets and peaceful demonstrations.
