With lives that began with the sounds of Joe Jackson, The Beatles, Frank Zappa, and Warren Zevon and which were shaped through orchestral training and symphonic duties, S.J. Kardash and his sister Maygen have been running toward Violent Kin before they could walk. In their former band, they toured internationally, landing on the cover of the New York Times, and playing China’s famous Beijing Pop Festival. But in late 2008, that project dissolved and the kin again felt the excitement of seeing their future as a blank slate. They recorded “Bitter Blood”—a full-length album full of truths, venom, and compassion; and thus, Violent Kin became their world.
Days after the official release of “Bitter Blood”, the Kin began a summer residency in New York City bookended by an eastern North American tour, amassing supporters from show to show. Back in Canada, the album started to find its way onto the charts of college stations and the single “Blue Eyes” was added into rotation on some mainstream stations. New York not only provided the Kin with many new relationships, the city also doled out accolades: “Discover what deserves to be a stateside summertime hit,” raved the Villager, and IndiSoundsNY warned, “If you don't come out and see a show then you're very silly indeed. Because soon you'll need to be giving a cut to Ticketmaster.”
The band came home after that two-month tour to sudden recognition, being plastered full-page on the major publications in their home territory and their song blaring on the radio. Only two weeks later, Violent Kin joined UK act Band of Skulls on the western Canadian leg of their tour. The media continued to cheer along: “4.5/5,” heralded chartattack.com, “Bitter Blood is an admirable first record that oozes with sibling synergy. It'll make you want to hit repeat over and over.” In addition to their touring successes, Violent Kin has reached a global audience as a result of their MySpace community and have received airplay in places as far as Germany and the Canary Islands, and have collaborated with Russian electro-artist Deuz on a remix of their song “Call You Out ****”.
Most recently, the band showcased to a packed room for New York’s famous CMJ Music Marathon and they are now gearing for a November Los Angeles showcase before continuing to work on new music in anticipation of their sophomore album as they plan on keeping up the full force attack. “As the name suggests these two will tear you apart like sibling bear cubs” (Whitey Houston, Edmonton Journal).
I never asked for anything from my network of artists and friends. I'm not selling any CD's or asking you to come to my concerts, or making you click on a stupid link to nowhere.... Please do me 1 favor>>Vote for my Dad's song as the official song for the city of St. Petersburg Florida "Carry Me Back" http://www.stpete.org/song/song_form.cfm. He is a legendary bass player performer, and has earned his dues with the 60's The Tropics, 70's Tom Petty, 80's Fortress, 90's many many others, and now touring (or should I say "groovin" on a Sunday afternoon) with other legends like himself in the New Rascals. give a listen, and vote for my Pops. It's song choice A, Charlie Souza & the New Tropics. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND COME ON DOWN TO ST. PETERSBURG TO HANG OUT ON THE BEACH! Help me help out my Pops, my fellow artists & songwriters, what do you think? http://www.stpete.org/song/song_form.cfm
